VC's insistence on going with Weir as second choice is a bit of a problem. club rugby is his level atm but he still has another 10 years in the game, he needs to nail down the 10 spot at Edinburgh and continue developing. It's time to see what Jackson and Heathcote can offer behind that pack and with those backs around them.

First time I heard of him was yesterday. Toulon is a hard team to get in though.

I think he been involved a handful of times. Which is a decent effort at a club like that for a 21 year old.

Superb achievement from a Scotsman so young and 'off the radar'. I wonder what he plans to do beyond the next season or two, Toulon don't seem like the kind of place to develop a non qualified youngster.

Wouldn't be the worst place to develop for another season or two. Tight 5 is a position group where training with that quality of player but having managed game time isn't the worst idea. He's been there for 18months (or at least 1st made the bench in Sept 2014) or so now. If his contract ends this summer then Edinburgh should be looking at him. He must have a bigger upside than McKenzie.

Found this little article. So he has Scotland aspirations. Good to hear. I'm sure he will make the necessary decisions to make that a reality over the next few years.

Denton came off the bench for Bath last night and Taylor continues to start on the wing for Saracens. Brown off the bench. With Itoje and Kruis broken through Hamilton rarely gets gametime these days.

About his level tbh. It's a strange one though, when he broke through at Edinburgh as an 18 or 19 year old around 07/08 I thought he'd go on to become a future international - he was a hot prospect at the time.

Instead he's just played the last 6-7 years in the championship and another 1-2 on the fringe of a pretty average Gloucester 23.

That list is a wee bit sad, especially when you think how rubbish our centres were for ages. Cairns--plenty of talent but never really got the chance to shine in test rugby, mainly on account of injury. De Luca--loads of talent but there was always a 'but' about him. Dewey: scored a lot of tries in his first few caps for Scotland then sank without trace. I even thought Robertson, who inherited his dad's fantastic side-step would make it to the top, but alas no.

I think Tom Phillip may have been the missing link, or at least had a good chance to be honest.

De Luca is earning his pension in Biaritz IIRC. But Dewey and Cairns were robbed of a career by injury. Dewey now runs a farm.
