True. And I could be imagining this, but was he not criticised for his attitude while he was the the Crusaders? NZ posters might be able to shed some light.
Heathcote was performing well earlier in the season too. Not sure if he dropped off a bit or got injured though. We'd be stupid not to have a look given our serious lack of depth at 10.

VC's insistence on going with Weir as second choice is a bit of a problem. club rugby is his level atm but he still has another 10 years in the game, he needs to nail down the 10 spot at Edinburgh and continue developing. It's time to see what Jackson and Heathcote can offer behind that pack and with those backs around them.
Re: Scots Abroad VIII (or let's spot the new messiah)
First time I heard of him was yesterday. Toulon is a hard team to get in though.

He got a tasty cauliflower ear to go along with that nasty head knock.

I think he been involved a handful of times. Which is a decent effort at a club like that for a 21 year old.

Superb achievement from a Scotsman so young and 'off the radar'. I wonder what he plans to do beyond the next season or two, Toulon don't seem like the kind of place to develop a non qualified youngster.

Wouldn't be the worst place to develop for another season or two. Tight 5 is a position group where training with that quality of player but having managed game time isn't the worst idea. He's been there for 18months (or at least 1st made the bench in Sept 2014) or so now. If his contract ends this summer then Edinburgh should be looking at him. He must have a bigger upside than McKenzie.

Found this little article. So he has Scotland aspirations. Good to hear. I'm sure he will make the necessary decisions to make that a reality over the next few years.

Yeah I think we can let him hang out with Botha, Williams and whoever else they’ve got without worrying too much about game time right now.

Denton came off the bench for Bath last night and Taylor continues to start on the wing for Saracens. Brown off the bench. With Itoje and Kruis broken through Hamilton rarely gets gametime these days.
Low, Atkins & Heathcore all starting in the Exeter v Wuss clash. Grove on the bench.
Visser starts for Quins and is back to his scoring ways. On the other side Falcons have Tait and Hogg starting with Lawson on the bench.
LI are playing their full contingent of 4 in the starting XV.
Laidlaw and McCall start for Gloucester.
Jackson on the bench for Wasps.

Tonks' move seems to be going well.
How do you embed videos?

About his level tbh. It's a strange one though, when he broke through at Edinburgh as an 18 or 19 year old around 07/08 I thought he'd go on to become a future international - he was a hot prospect at the time.
Instead he's just played the last 6-7 years in the championship and another 1-2 on the fringe of a pretty average Gloucester 23.
Meh.

re Mcall, i dont remember being that impressed with him at Edinburgh, he seemed be a decent player but missed the x factor that Cairns, De Luca, Robertson, Jones and Dewey brought their first year
From that list only Jones is still in a pro team (although Robertson is playing 7s last i read)

That list is a wee bit sad, especially when you think how rubbish our centres were for ages. Cairns--plenty of talent but never really got the chance to shine in test rugby, mainly on account of injury. De Luca--loads of talent but there was always a 'but' about him. Dewey: scored a lot of tries in his first few caps for Scotland then sank without trace. I even thought Robertson, who inherited his dad's fantastic side-step would make it to the top, but alas no.

I think Tom Phillip may have been the missing link, or at least had a good chance to be honest.

De Luca is earning his pension in Biaritz IIRC. But Dewey and Cairns were robbed of a career by injury. Dewey now runs a farm.
