Would that happen for those sorts of players though, since using the Olympic model, they'd still all be team GB?

That was just for the olympics wan't it? the 7s series tournaments all were (and are) competed in individually?Jps wrote:Would that happen for those sorts of players though, since using the Olympic model, they'd still all be team GB?

Yes, but I mean you said that a player had to have a way to re-classify via 7s because of the Olympics, but I just wonder if that applies to players who would want to move unions inside of a respective Olympic nation?Which Tyler wrote:That was just for the olympics wan't it? the 7s series tournaments all were (and are) competed in individually?Jps wrote:Would that happen for those sorts of players though, since using the Olympic model, they'd still all be team GB?

Sorry, I don't understand the question.
The IRB had to introduce a loophole to allow people to switch nationalities I'm order to become an Olympic sport. Rugby is now an Olympic sport, with the loophole in place, regardless of your nationality.

If he counts, Oli Kebble starting for Stormers v blues on sky now. Just lost the ball to a turnover. He's a bit of a unit.

Not that it's a small sum of money! Just interesting.

Interestingly a back row George Stokes at Toulon is named as a stage 3 academy player. No idea about him but on a YouTube video he calls himself english.
Sam Yawayaya at Leicester also stage 3 player.

I think Yawayawa has flip flopped between Scotland at 16s and England at 18's. I guess this is him committing to Scotland - perhaps a 7s season in the offing.
Stokes looks like a 6 going by what I can find.

We have a new Scot abroad in the form of Junior B who has now signed for Doncaster. A shame he's left Scotland, I always felt he had huge potential & was under used by Toony. At times I got the impression he was a part time player!

Although he's not scottish, but definitely abroad, Cockerill was great value on the sidelines for the Toulon match. He was mic'd and my god he gets into it.
Can't say I completely understand his Toulon selection, but maybe I just really don't rate Bastareud. Anyway, they're in the final, but I don't see them beating Clermont.
Scotsman did a little feature on Carmichael, seems to be enjoying super rugby. Interesting to note they rotated him out of the squad after 5 games, even though he was playing well, and the Force wanna keep him for the rest of the season:

"it’s the skill set that really sets Super Rugby apart. I’ve played against New Zealand and South African opposition and their ability to execute under high pressure and make the right decision is amazing. “That is not to say that the Edinburgh boys don’t have a good skill set – they do"

I'd let him stay there until the end of their season. Great experience for him and he is getting the game time.

Couple of months off and back in contention for embra around december seemed decent.Big D wrote:I'd let him stay there until the end of their season. Great experience for him and he is getting the game time.

Super touch finishes for those not in the playoffs in mid July. Month or so of rest and he could be back by end September.hp18 wrote:Couple of months off and back in contention for embra around december seemed decent.Big D wrote:I'd let him stay there until the end of their season. Will be interesting to see if he starts pushing the more established guys.

The Aussies have a lower club comp that runs like the Currie cup etc no? I'd let him have the lot.Big D wrote:Super touch finishes for those not in the playoffs in mid July. Aye the NRC I think it's called. From memory it's considered a pretty poor competition in comparison to the other SH club comps.hp18 wrote:The Aussies have a lower club comp that runs like the Currie cup etc no? I just wonder whether at 22, with a bit of confidence from playing reasonably well in Super Rugby whether it is worth getting him back and competing for places.
Another thing I wonder with him is whether he'll stick at 2nd row or play a bit at 6. He isn't a big second row at 6ft 5 (or 6) and 17st 9.

David Denton to Worcester. Unfortunately I'm starting to think we'll never see him realise his potential.

He was getting played out of position a lot for Bath- he may be many things, but he's not a 7, and considering their back row options, I think it's an ok move for him. If he's fully recovered from injury, he needs to have a big season.

Re: Scots Abroad VIII (or let's spot the new messiah)
TBF - he didn't play a lot for Bath in any position, and what? 1 game at 7?
He's been injured a lot with us, and not particularly close to first choice when he has been fit. He's picked up a good salary though.
I wish him well, and hope he gets enough game-time to grow into the role at Worcester, as he never did for Bath.

Yeah. Not overly thrilled with that one. I fee like Leicester should have gone for him, could really do with an 8 and he would presumably be a little cheaper now?
