Try by Bradbury after a good run by Mckenzie. Weir misses it. 20-26

20-33 Leinster try. Lots of work this week. Passing and support play are key.

Leinster are a decent side but Jesus the Embra defensive line was all over the shop in the first half.

Gut punch at the end there to walk away with nothing from that, but we walked right in to it. We got what we deserved, don't horse away possession in the last 5 when you are chasing the game.
Both our halfbacks played poorly the night. Fowles isn't the answer, but SHC really, really needs to show some form of old soon. There was a box kick in the ten meters there in the second half that lead to a net loss of about 5 meters and a turn over possession. If we are going to do shit like that, why not just stand at the back of the ruck and pass it directly to their flyhalf.
Watson was good, as was Kinghorn, nice to CDP back too.

I feel sorry for Weir. He's trying to do everything himself as there's fuck all spark in the rest of the side. Repeatedly put on the spot by his halfbacks.OptimisticJock wrote:Weir ffs

You're right that there's no spark at I lay that completely at Solomons door but what you can't blame znoyone for, other than weir, are those 2 stupid kicks.hp18 wrote:I feel sorry for Weir. Pathetic. Don't know why I bother tuning into Edinburgh games - I tuned out of this one after a few minutes after seeing the same old. I genuinely don't think I've seen them have a good game from them since the Bradley days. So that's like what... 2012?
If the SRU have no intention in getting rid of Solomons I'd rather see their core Scots head over to Glasgow where they have access to the coaching they deserve.

Re: Solly's Soul Destroyers
No team has ever prompted the question "How does he have a professional contract?" more so than Edinburgh. How Nathan Fowles is in the squad I will never know. He lacks the basic skills that you'd see at semi pro level and he ships god f*cking awful ball onto his 10 to deal with regardless.hp18 wrote:I feel sorry for Weir. Re: Solly's Soul Destroyers
Not much to add but it is the basic mistakes that get to me. For instance, the go to move when near their line (apart from the pick and drive) seems to be a runner coming hard and flat. All very well (if a bit basic for pro rugby) except 9 times out of 10 they get man and ball and drop it and have to start building all over again

Re: Solly's Soul Destroyers
Second half was much better than the first half but we have all the cutting edge of Sollys famous dry wit. Everything was either driven from the ruck or shovelled along a static backline. The one or two times someone did take the ball at pace they made yards, perhaps because Lenister were so surprised. It's easy to have loads of possession if you don't try do anything with it but we seem to be in the classic trap. The stats will say that our possession levels were good and we completed lots of passes. This allows the coaches to claim that we're in the right path. However it completely fails to look at what we actually achieved for 80 minutes of effort against a talented but callow Lenister side, absolutely nothing.
Kinghorn looks like a young player. He made a few mistakes but also made some lovely breaks and did some very nice things. We should be persevering as any ability to open things up is worth a lot to us right now, even with a few errors thrown in. Watson had a good game in the second half too, he's got real power for a relatively small (rugby) player.
Our basic skills are dreadful for this level though. How many times did we fail to make a simple pass when there may have been something on? McKenzie trying to go wide and trundling it along the ground may have been the worst for me. It's just so predictable and depressing to watch.

Could Watson play hooker? Would he be any worse at throwing? I'd like to fit him in the Scotland side.

I don't know if he could or not but we've only got one good option at openside and you want to change the next best that we have?Mikey Brown wrote:Could Watson play hooker? Would he be any worse at throwing? I'd like to fit him in the Scotland side.
I like Watson at club level, he runs hard with the ball, tackles well and runs pretty good support lines. I do wonder if he gets away with using his physical gifts at club level however and wouldn't be as effective at internationals. I also think that he doesn't generate enough turnovers for an openside.

Agree with all you've said here but Hardie isn't exactly a turnover machine. Out of interest, does anyone here know which Scottish backrow does win the most turnovers? (awaits someone presenting the stats showing Hardieswitchskier wrote:I don't know if he could or not but we've only got one good option at openside and you want to change the next best that we have?Mikey Brown wrote:Could Watson play hooker? I remember the outrage when Hardie made the WC squad over Watson. Didn't take long to silence the doubters but Watson is an able deputy.

I don't know. Would Watson make any other 6N squad? IAble club man but I doubt it. We're weak in the back-row at the minute.Chunks Baws wrote:Agree with all you've said here but Hardie isn't exactly a turnover machine. Re: Solly's Soul Destroyers
I think that's a little unfair. I don't remember exact games but I've always thought Watson to be a very good in the limited appearances he has had in the dark blue and find it baffling that he is omitted from Vern's plans again and again. Did he not have a stormer in one of the RWC warm ups only to be one of the first players cut out?switchskier wrote:I don't know if he could or not but we've only got one good option at openside and you want to change the next best that we have?Mikey Brown wrote:Could Watson play hooker? Re: Solly's Soul Destroyers
Yeah, he played well against Italy in a warm up, off the bench I think. This led to a lot of misdirected pish towards Hardie. I have no idea what his turnover stats are but most games I've watched him in he's a menace. I like his style and I think after Hardie, and potentially Barclay, he's our best option at openside. I'd much rather see him in the squad than Blair Cowan.hugh_woatmeigh wrote:I think that's a little unfair. Re: Solly's Soul Destroyers
Pretty much agree with that. Short of a class 6 appearing I'd happily play some combination of Hardie/Barclay/Watson. I just think he offers an energy and linking ability that no Scotland player seems to have, but I haven't seen enough full 80s from him to know if he's consistent enough.

Re: Solly's Soul Destroyers
Quite unfair on Watson there Switch. He was the form OS going into the WC although I'd concede Hardie probably ended up being the right option. I'd have no issues seeing him play for Scotland.
