The electoral college was invented to prevent the most populous states (Mass., NY, Penn, Virginia) from dominating the federation and the presidency. The mechanism occasionally allows minority votes to win.

Same, and even worse, for the Senate. Wyoming and California have both 2 senators.

It wasn't saying "oh, but we don't know what their intentions really were," it was saying, "We don't know if they would've escalated to dragging people off the bus to beat them." Whether you agree or disagree with them, I was posing a hypothetical and they were perfectly entitled to disagree.
