Just to echo others, this is a very good game.
I hate when my teams play Oz, so it's nice to watch it as a relative neutral.

Kudos to Wales for holding on for the win. So, Eng v Oz in the QF if all goes to form. As an Eng fan I think that’s who I’d prefer.

Well that was a lot closer than it should have been. Loads to work on for Wales.

Yep though we would have to be spot on at the breakdown. Manu v Kerevi be a decent clash

Great game. Wales looked completely stuffed with 20 to play. Great win for them.
Hooper, though, what an engine.

I think we can thank Cheika for his starting 15 to give us a perfect first half. Game changed with his subs and while we can sit back and enjoy the moment we still have a lot of work to do for the quarter final (assuming of course we beat Uruguay and Fiji)!

I did not think Moriarty made much impression.
Watkin - one very key moment!
It seems a long time since Nicky Smith destroyed the junior All Blacks scrum, he really has not developed as well as anticipated.

Every time NZ or England survive a scare in the pool stages "it just goes to show how you win tournaments". So when Wales do it - in the process getting our first WC win over a SANZAR team for 32 years - I'm having little truck with the "nearly blew it" stuff. Yeah, we did. NEARLY.
There was only one winner on 65 minutes, wasn't there? I'm not sure how Wales turned it around but I'm getting kind of used to saying that now. We keep winning matches from positions that you KNOW we'd have lost a few years ago. All the criticism of our play in the 3rd quarter is valid enough but only when tempered with a recognition of what has been achieved. This has been THE match on our horizon for a couple of years; plenty of raised eyebrows and "we'll see won't we?"s - well, here we are, and what did they always teach us? Look at the scoreboard. It was close, it was nervy, it was always in doubt... and it's in the bank. Well done, lads!

I agree with your point in general.
But I still don't think this is a very good Aus team, so coming close to losing to them isn't a good look. They are scrappers, though, and do often pull it closer than it should be.

That was a cracking match!! Now could the Fijians be a potential banana skin? Whatever, England, France and Argentina are all beatable the way your boys are playing.

Watkin had two crucial moments. Who was it who kept Toomuas penalty in play? Adams?

It's not a very good Aus team. Fair enough. Yes, we should probably have buried them. We didn't. Black mark.
Imagine that we gone 18 points down to Aus, and then staged a heroic comeback that JUST failed to get us over the line. Does anyone seriously believe that, minutes after the whistle, fans and/or pundits would be talking about Australia's weaknesses?
We just beat Australia, in the World Cup. There's lots to work on and improve for sure, but FFS can't it at least wait untl tomorrow?

Well, I'm not a Wales fan, so I couldn't care less
But I agree, you guys should be lapping it up, you held on just well enough to win and that's impressive.

My grandfather did two and a half years on the Western Front in WW1 and came back with terse opinions on all the nationalities he fought with or against. His view on Australians was:
"They never know when they are beaten"
He was with the field artillery a mile behind the front line, and was not rotated out of action like the infantry, so saw a lot of continuous action. He clarified this view by saying then when he moved forward over ground where Austalians had fought, it was littered with dead of both sides. The Australians did not give up and surrender even when outnumbered or surrounded, they stood and fought. Years later when I studied military history at university I realised this view matched up with the way the British High Command used Australian units.
I don't think this is the best Australian team ever, but they certainly have lots of fighting spirit.

It was Tomas Williams I thought. Wonderful athleticism and played the ball back to a Welsh player.
I’m still shaking!
