*gawp at a closed coffin that one presumes actually has a dead stramger inside.

Not exactly unprecedented when 100,000 people turned up in six days to gawp at the dead body of Lenin - which is still on display.

Can they please pay their inheritance tax? The free funeral on top is just taking the piss.

They're just waiting until they have the technology to bring him back to life, along with USSR 2.0

Yes.

I was talking to someone I'd normally consider sane who queued all Wednesday night and found it an uplifting experience. But then, suffering does bring people together.

But that was just an all-nighter. By the weekend I assume the queue will take a whole weekend to traverse.

I don't get it. I would happily pay my respect to the queen but that is beyond madness. And given that planning for this has been in place for decades, is this really the best idea they could come up with?

I bet St Johns ambulance are pretty busy; thankfully the weather is pretty moderate at the moment.

Gods, imagine if it'd been during the heat wave!

You've raised a point that I hadn't thought of, which is that the queue itself is a communal experience and I'd imagine bonding and sharing it with the people around you. Still wouldn't catch me doing it, but if you're deeply affected by the Queen's death, then I guess it's more than just the minute's shuffle past a box.

There are quite a few heart warming, and comedic, stories coming out of The Queue.
If I put on my Eng Lit A level hat, I’m enjoying the symbolism. Beyond the obvious fact that we bloody love a queue, it resembles quite a few of the characteristics the British public and, daring to put my head above the parapet again, the Queen are famous for.

Not great optics but I guess there's a protocol for royal offspring and their duties in the event of a death.

I will become a much bigger fan of Charles if his first act as King is to get Andrew to absolute fuck.
