Bring it on. Beating Australia with Jones in charge would be sweet!

It was obvious he was going to walk into a lucrative long term job. He does have a good record and made it plain he wanted to continue. Could be a masterstroke by the Aussies. Feel a bit for Rennie who had the most awful injury situation to deal with.

Eddie generally has a good first impact, so this could be a very sharp move by the Aussies.

Unless Gatland performs a miracle, they should be winning their group regardless of coach, so if we cock up then we would meet them in the quarters. Otherwise its only a worry if we both make the final, which has a vanishingly small likelihood of happening.

You agree a gardening leave period for what would be the remainder of his contract so that he still gets the benefits associated with the job (presumably healthcare etc) and remains on paper an employee (albeit one that doesn't have to turn up for work).

Eddie would have had to agree to that, I'm guessing that the RFU just wanted rid so Eddie named his price and they thrashed it out.

Doesn't gardening leave leave you open to accusations of constructive dismissal?
The only places I'm aware of these things being enforceable is detailed knowledge of patented/market sensitive systems - which I very, very much doubt applies to rugby playbooks.

Of course, I'm very happy to be corrected by anyone with actual, legal knowledge of these things.

Though Os has been going through a lean patch, you can see that they have some exciting young players coming through and the makings of a very good team. If/when they gel, Jonny-come-lately Jones will sit back and enjoy all the credit.

A quick synopsis:

‘McLennan’s wife, Lucinda, cooked dinner – a serving of Portuguese chicken and salad – which was warmly appreciated by Jones.’

Just stumbled across this quote from Borth Daddy last week:

“When I looked at the team in the autumn, when I measured the team and got all the data for the team, we weren't good at anything.”

Pretty farking damning.

Borthwick is right. Stats and results dont lie.

3rd or 4th place might be as good as it gets this 6N's. I'm not expecting anything better as we are clearly behind some of the other teams and that isnt going to change any time soon.

amazing we managed to beat Australia away and get a draw with NZ tbh ;)

But I agree- Ireland at full tilt vs our last outing and we get hammered.

That quote depends on the emphasis a lot
"When I looked at the team in the autumn, when I measured the team and got all the data for the team, we weren't good at anything.”

"When I looked at the team in the autumn, when I measured the team and got all the data for the team, we weren't good at anything.”

I read it the second way, as everyone keeps banging on about, Borthwick is a details guy and an analyst so I think before he started he had in his head a numerical scale of what good was for a load of the measurable aspects of play eg.

% of scrums won on own ball
% of sub 2 second attacking rucks etc.

But yeah, it is both damning of Eddie and indicating that there's a lot of work to do/setting expectations.
