Agreed. What's his claim to a connection with England anyway? I want to know how outraged I ought to be.

Mum or Grandma can't remember.

He went Hartubury college for 2 years and his Partner is from Manchester. so he does have some English links I guess.

It's his Mum.

I don't know about Puja but I'm confused about how to feel about this.
He's half English, was partly educated in England and has an English partner. However, he has a terrible haircut only a Kiwi rugby player would dare sport and he's come over on a pro-contract.
Taking soundings from both Farage and Farron, I've decided to be mildly miffed if he gets capped, with the caveat that I reserve the right to be outraged if he moves back to NZ as soon as his career finishes.

I have some how completely missed seeing this guy. A quick summary?

Was keeping Savea out of the Hurricanes side and recently joined Bristol. He's been instrumental in our turn around in form.

Plays centre, wing and full back and he's a good place kicker. Currently out for a spell though as he knocked out against Saints. Hopefully no concussion and he'll be back soon.

I think he's quite a good player personally. Would be challenging at 15, all other things being equal

Things are starting to get a little silly though. I appreciate it's all within the rules, but even I'm starting to think it's getting out of hand.

The next one for the press will be Solomona - he looks like an excellent poacher

Eddies knows his onions - does anyone think he might push the boat out and have a look at Gravey from Bath? add some beef to the backrow as Robshaw's replacement

Thanks for the summary jim, sounds promising. I've always liked gravey ( :D ) as well.

He probably offers the most defensive nous we have available at 6, so he wouldn't be a bad shout at all.

Garvey is certainly a good club player. Personally, as regards the starting XV, I'd go for Itoje at 6 with Launch and Lawes or Kruis at lock.

It sort of feels like in a year or so, once we've had time to blood some additional options at 6 and/or 7 and a few players have come back from injury, our back row options will be considerable. Right now though, it doesn't feel like that...

Interesting that Lewis Moody believes 6 will be Itoje's best position!

I think people tend to look at Itoje, see his exceptional all round skill set (including his work at the breakdown) and think it'll work best as a back rower.

I can see it personally, but then I think you could make a fairly robust argument that as a lock, with the ability to work as a quasi back rower, he could add more to the team than a 6, who can act as a quasi-lock.

The truth is that he'll be exceptional at either, but I think I see more value in the former, and find a specialist 6.

I tend to look at the players available to England and think Itoje would go best at 6. But it is a bit of a nuisance if he's going to play there that he's just been adding weight to help him at lock

The counter-argument (because, you know, we've never had this chat before ) isn't that he'll act as a quasi-lock at 6 (although the extra lineout option and set-piece bulk is nice), but rather than he'll get to use more of his all round skill set at 6.

And separate to what's his best position is the fact that, definitely short term at least, he'll add more to to the team as a 6 acting as a quasi-lock because we've got three great locks who play like quasi-back rows anyway and no great blindside flankers.

"Where should we play Itoje?" is the new, "Should we pick SArmitage?"

I think it's a bit hard on Robshaw to say that we've got no great blindsides. However, with ChrissyR injured, I am more sanguine about shuffling Maro around.

I would hem and haw about Robshaw as a great blindside if fit, but my post was written to reflect the current circumstances where he's not.

No way ChrissyR is hip hop. I imagine him as more the Phil Collins type.

Maybe more in the Andrew Sheridan mould?

Yeah, I've got no idea where ChrissyR came from. I blame sleep deprivation.

True. I have horrible images of a crooning ballad, with the video being of them sat in their beautiful farmhouse kitchen-dinner in matching Joules jumpers, ChrissyR carving the roast lamb that was loving prepared by MissyR and Haskell peering in through the window in a desperate attempt to get yet more publicity.

As an aside, is Robshaw still an item with that soprano that does the National Anthem? If so, whatever else might be good or bad about him rugby-wise, the man has taste.
