Each player will get £70,000 basic fee (regardless of games played), up from £50k in 2013.
The series win bonus available will be increased from 2013's £25k
Home Unions get £70k/player provided as compensation, plus further compensation to clubs if anyone is injured.

That's all on top of profit distribution isn't it?

You mean for the national Unions? Yes, I assume so. The article was mostly about player payments.
£70k for about 8 hours work and a free 5-week tour around New Zealand sounds bloody good to me.

Cheers Liz, I looked on google yesterday for this info but clearly my querying of google is below par. Any idea what sums the clubs can expect to pick up?

The Times reckon clubs will receive per player the same £££ as the players receive, they think £70k as wel.

So is it £70k to a player, £70k to their club/region if English/Welsh and £70k to the union if Scottish/Irish, and lastly some compensation to a club/region/union in the event of an injury sustained on tour?

No mention of injury compo in the article.

They may mean they simply have insurance in place for serious bumps

Yeah, there is:
With so much negative talk about the punishing schedule, Feehan confirmed the Lions would compensate clubs should any of their players be injured.
"Nobody is disadvantaged by going on a Lions tour in terms of money," he said. "If a player is injured on tour we take full responsibility."

I meant my article. I didn't read yours, there's only so much msm propaganda I can take in one day.

I guess it depends, some of Scotlands likely potential tourists may not be at the same team next year. Nel is OOC this year for example so not sure Edinburgh would be due money if he left as I think the tour is after contract end. Can't remember if Seymour and Hogg are in a similar position.
I would think Edinburgh or Glasgow would get the money directly or indirectly from the SRU.
That depends if any Scots make it of course.

Who get's the money for a Maitland? Home nation might be considered England or Scotland, or frankly NZ

That's two different things though is it not?
1. Liz mentioned the unions being compensated. Presumably for players missing the national tours. So SRU in the case of Maitland, RFU in the case of Hartley, IRFU in the case of Payne (if we are picking non UK/Ire born players).
2. Mells suggested the Times are saying the clubs will be due compensation. Which will be Sarries presumably for Maitland, Glasgow for Hogg etc.
Where it may not be clear is say Nel agrees to join Saracens from Edinburgh and his contract finishes on 31st of May, would Edinburgh or Sarries get the £70k.
Doesn't really matter I guess.

it only really matters to me as few important players to England travel as possible. though I realise i'm in the minority on this.

Can we start a thread in which Diggers can share his Tourette's-esque anti-Lions thoughts?

It's still a minority. And there's perhaps little to be done when rugby is run to try ensure the extra fans who watch the 6N, the WC and the Lions will turn on their TVs. The casual fans who'll turn on their TVs for the 6N, for the WC and for a Lions tour are far more important than someone like me who'd still watch 100+ games a season if BT sport never ran another segment telling me all about their upcoming games, and boy do BT sport like telling you about their upcoming games.

I think it's been tried, but it won't stop him popping up in other threads.

I know it is still a minority. But it is something my circle of rugby friends would look forward to, meet up at pubs or someone’s house, drink beer and watch the games. Last time we didn’t and this time there seems little appetite to discuss it. How times change, or perhaps it’s old age setting in.

Until the last line I was about to ask how often would you and your friends be down the pub Vs 8 or even 12 years back
