UKIP

Just when you thought that Labour had the sole rights to comedy value politics, UKIP plunges itself into another leadership crisis.
And i na meeting of UKIP MEPs today, one of the leading contenders for the latest leadership race collapses after an altercation.
Putting aside the health of Steven Wolffe, is there any future to this party, or have they shot their bolt now the UK has voted for Brexit? There are plenty of disillusioned labour voters in the north who could be potential UKIP voters, but can they occupy that space in a post-Brexit Britain?

They seem to be worse than Labour for infighting. Busted flush. Even this Wolffe fella who is favourite in the leadership contest, wants to join the Tories. The Conservatives are the new party of the people!

Conservatives presenting themselves as the party of the people. But one would tend to think they'll do very little for the people and simply allow some very rich people to get much richer. One may of course take the specific view that government shouldn't involve itself in such.
On UKIP they don't have a normal party manifesto, anything they've ever had on that front has been bonkers and largely contradicts itself, so far they've had success as a single issue protest group and given their craziness and ineptness of most members it seems likely that may have more success as a single issue protest group again. They've kicked around the idea of campaigning to bring back the death penalty, or allowing guns to be carried, and likely a few more examples just as worthy. Ideally they'd get behind something like a genuine comprehensive education for all and with exemplary arts and sports programmes run alongside the academic, but I have my doubts.

I think a political movement which has defined itself in terms of opposition, anti EU and anti establishment, will find it difficult to find areas where there is agreement on what to do. UKIP has grabbed members from Labour as much as from the Conservatives so finding a manifesto that appeals to that broad church would take some doing, even without the farcical leadership conundrums.

For all the criticisms I made about the Labour MPs and their behaviour, at least they didn't get into literal fights like this.

Do we know who Wolfe was fighting with? For a politician Wolfe looks like he could handle himself, so surprised he got his arse handed to him.

A sheep in Woolfe's clothing.

Read something earlier about Woolfe asking Hookem to sort the issue out 'outside'.
Not a great day for ukips reputation.

He collapsed a little while after.
2 hours later according to the report I read.
Its likely that Woolfe will be suspended from the party, and even if he doesn't this won't help his election chances. And he looked like one f the more credible candidates. I personally don't think UKIP can replace Farage and it will take a miracle for them to be a dominant force in the decade ahead.

They need a headline policy as much as a charismatic new leader.
A UKIP member on 5live has suggested that should be an English Parliament (somewhere north of Birmingham) and the scrapping of the Lords. She seemed to be on the reasonable side of the party - lovely sounding lady making an pasta puttanesca who dislikes the EU not Europe.
She was followed by some UKIP nutter undoing all her hard work by saying they weren't right wing, they just wanted to save Britain's culture from swarms of immigrants. He then went on to say that there is nothing wrong with a 'bitch slap' when defending the Woolfe v Hookem incident.

Preparing the garlic, allegedly.

I'd thought part of the point was it was a quick dish to fix up, thus something which could be done between jobs, and from which the name puttanesca.
And just how much prep can one do with garlic?
