What a complete cluster fuck!

Head coach that spends half the season in NZ then fucks off for 12 months every 4 years to coach the lions
Attack/interim head coach that has no idea and is rumoured to be off with gats for a chunk of next summer
Fitness coach that works else where at the same time and by the souds of it hasn't been seen in months

Doesn't sound like half the coaches are really interested inactually coaching Wales and if Howler goes with gats to the lions that'll mean either Edwards or McBride will be interim interim head coach and who the fuck is attack coach then? Would we even notice?


People wonder why Wales are in decline. Wonder if the RFU, NZRFU or IRFU would allow this to happen?

No one in their right mind would allow this level of disruption.

I'm not sure the situation with the coaches causes more disruption than the players heading off on the jamboree, and if we're going to release the players.... That said it is on top of the disruption caused to playing resources and it doesn't help

So, 3 coaches in 12 months! Nothing like stability. If they knew Howler would be going with Gats, why not put McBride or Edwards in charge in the first place?

The WRU may have some new personel but its the same old clusterfuck

But in this instance, the disruption is season long as Gatland needs to be with the Lions full time. Disruption to the summer tour I can live with.

I'm also glad we're sending McBride on the summer tour to the Pacific Islands. That should be a walk in the park, and it's nice to see one of our young, inexperienced coaches get the chance to develop, just like he did four years ago, and four years before that.

Looking forward to another successful McBride tour. Like Japan.

SO, not only will our lead coaches be involved in what promises to be virtual mission impossible in New Zealand, any Welsh player not with the lions will be getting seven bells knocked out of them under the direction of McBride and whatever coaching staff can be bothered to go with them.

I'm really looking forward to next summer....

Worse I think is what does Gats say to any Welsh player when he returns who he didn't select, given that and the problem of perhaps taking players they know who they shouldn't is why I wouldn't pick any incumbent head coach of the 4 nations.

And on the disruption losing the head coach for a season is much worse, but I suppose it's also much cheaper to only pay Gats 3 years in 4

I'd be suprised if gats is still with us post lions. If he wins inzid will be knocking his door.....if he gets a whitewash he will be damaged goods.

Most likely to happen imo is the players turn on him because they feel they should have played for the lions but then we have player power and that whole can of worms

The only scenario where Gats leaves before the next RWC is, IMO, if in the 2018 6 Nations we crash and burn badly with some kind of complete loss in player support. That gives us a caretaker into the RWC and then a new coach thereafter.

Given the likelihood of the caretaker being one of the current coaching team, Id almost prefer Gatland to see out his contract.

He was surprised to be selected for the role. So was everyone else. Howley struggling to look beyond Cardiff??

Surely, if we're going to take a backs coach from one of the regions it would be from one of the regions that is actually doing well ie the Scarlets or the Ospreys?

The problem with that is that at least it's easy to get rid of an underperforming caretaker. If Howley underperforms as head coach, we're stuck with him for much longer.

But it's moot as I doubt Gatland's going anywhere. I don't see him crashing badly enough in Wales or losing enough player support. The only hope of him going is if he flukes a win with the Lions and someone in NZ mistakes him for a top coach and hires him.
