50 players out of contract at end of season.

At least 10 won't get an extension but still some big names in there

Yeah I'm expecting a big name or two to move on.

Edinburgh could do with a big clear out tbh. I would just let Fowles and Allen walk. Here is an enlarged capture.

I'd only keep Kennedy, Brown and King Blairhorn out of that lot of backs. The forwards OOC are a major issue though that needs to be dealt with.

To be honest Edinburgh should never have been in a situation where that number of THPs and back rowers are OOC. I realise it is common in rugby to have lots of players OOC but surely basic risk management would see positions off set so Hardie and Watson or Nel and Berghan for example aren't OOC at the same time? Same for Glasgow with centre and 2nd row for example.

I think the SRU are always in this state as they like short term contracts so if someone loses all form or gets injured they don't stay on the books for that long

On another note. It was written in that article that they believe Hogg is on £375k per year.

Based on that the Glasgow centres will be thinking they are worth £250k+ if not more.

Nel will be looking at offers from the SRU in the same range as Hogg I would think. I can't see how the SRU will be able to afford to keep him sadly.

I can't be arsed digging it out but I'm sure Mark Palmer tweeted that Nel had already been offered 400K pa by a French club.

Even if the SRU matched the salary why would he stay?

It would depend what club offered the money to be honest. If I were a Scottish international I wouldn't take the same money to join a Brive/Pau type team or maybe even a Harlequins/Sale type team in England.

He's less likely to be ran into the ground at Edinburgh especially now he has suffered a neck injury.

The above is all irrelevant anyway as the SRU will not match the salary.

Simple solution: let Nel, Hardie, Manu, Gilchrist and all of Embra's sh!te backs go...and reinvest in Glasgow.

Maybe something to do with his family apparently loving life at Edinburgh. As a player being properly looked after rather than flogged etc.

Im not sure Nell is worth the same, he should be but Hogg is the face of Scottish rugby, and a fan favourite

Id love Nell to stay but he has been flogged by Edinburgh so he may fancy the same crap but on far more money.

Edinburgh get knocked out of europe early every year and don';t play nearly as many domestic fixtures as French or even AP teams... he's not been flogged that badly.

It's easy to see why the SRU want outside investment. Say Dunbar gets £250k, Bennett £200k and Horne £150k that would be nearly 20% of Gasgows budget (based on 5.1million stated at the SGM) on 4 players including Hogg.

So he has missed a few games but has usually played 70 - 80 minutes every week for Edinburgh as well

Don't get me wrong he would be flogged more in France but lets not pretend he wasn't worked like a slave by Solomans

You're right, but with the emergence of McCallum and Berghan back in the fold I think that would change.

Pyrgos commits for 2 years.
