Hearing reports that Joost Van Der Westhuizen has died.

Hardly unexpected, but horribly sad news.

The perfect player; loved watching him play, hated seeing him on the opposition teamsheet.

By all accounts, a true gent too.

Much as I hated him playing against us, as a rugby fan you have to admire and applaud truly gifted players and enjoy them contributing to our wonderful game.

Apologies if I have posted this before, but went to the Dinner of 9s at the Arms Park a couple of years ago as a fund raiser for his charity....plenty of hard arse rugby players there from all levels, not many left without shedding a tear after he spoke.

Obviously I dont know him personally, but from all Ive seen and read, great player, great family man and will be greatly remembered.

Very sad news.

Amazing player and he allways seemed like such a great guy.

Tragic condition and one he handled with such dignity.

Rugby legend in every sense.
