The Oscars

So, a year after accusations that the Oscars and associated establishment is racist, Moonlight wins best picture, best adapted screenplay, Mahershala Ali becomes the first Muslim to win an Oscar, Viola Davis wins best supporting actress and an Iranian film wins best foreign language film but its director is unable to attend as he boycotted the event due to Trump's travel ban.

Hmmm

I've not seen Moonlight so not sure if it's a worthy winner, but it does look like a decent film. It's just a little suspect after all the controversy last year.

Looking at the cockup on the news this morning, it almost didn't win!

You could be right though, a rebounding pendulum often goes well beyond the centre.

The acceptance speech for the, I think, Best Supporting Actress, was worth the entrance fee alone. I was sat having dinner in a restaurant in New York and they had the ceremony on and the natives were absolutely loving it.

Its a great film, and deserves it.

The baffling thing is La La Land got so many nods and even got Emma Stone the best actress nod (the acting was average, at best). I think it will always just be one of those things thats a bit of a joke; too much emphasis placed on one awards ceremony meaning there will always be a number of WTF moments every year.

It is all bribery and not as above board as most people think ... "For Your Consideration" packages, lavish gifts, money, and even personal appearances of the main actors to Academy voters homes or events is common practice to entice the ever-so-mysterious voters to push the studios film, actors, music to be nominated and on to win. A win means big money.

Its a night to sit and watch overpaid hand puppets patting eachother on the back... Meh. Id rather pick bellybutton fuzz out of the Porkster's navel.
