Or not. For those who had hoped that Dai Young might be in contention for the head coach role once Gatland heads off, those hopes appear to have been dashed by Young signing a new contract with Wasps. According to the Fail, this leaves us with Howley in prime contention.
TBH, Im not sure which annoys me the most. The fact that this has only ever been seen as a 2 horse race by some - are there no other coaches who might want to apply in 2019? Jason Strange has done his chances no harm I would suggest, and thats before we even look overseas. Or, the possibility that the WRU might be thinking in those terms and actually appoint a new head coach before the RWC tournament.
There is something about this inauguration of Howley which concerns me, even if he were delivering at the moment. I only hope that the WRU will have an exhaustive search post the RWC and genuinely look for the candidate who can bring the best out of our players, even if that means an interim coach, it would be worth it not to be saddled with a poor choice for 4 years.
