That way madness lies.
Let us shun that.
No more of that.

It's already a buggers muddle of the two methods. Frankly not a priority right now.

Metric makes far more sense and that's coming from someone born in the 70s.

What is this obsession you lot have with blue passports? I remember getting a lot of wistful comments whenever a Brit saw my blue NZ one in the early 2000s. Ours are now Black and Awesome looking.

There's a certain breed of brexiteer, mostly on the Tory right, who want to turn the clock back to the 1950s, perhaps even earlier. Being nostalgic isn't an obsession purely oft the right, but at the moment the Tory right is the only effective opposition to the government and they are making their voices heard.

It almost seems at times the Tory government is the only opposition for the Tory right, and the government are scared to make their voices heard

Given the current rise of nationalism, this was a fascinating read.
A different time, sure. But an interesting perspective from the past.

It's not necessarily the right wingnuts so much as it's the ageing population. They're a powerful quorum and they've started making their voices, their votes and their pounds heard. Well, not so much heard as easy to put the frighteners on and then manipulate.
It seems utterly bizarre that the business community as a whole allowed this situation to arise. They are usually the most powerful quorum and they totally dropped a bollock when faced with racist old people. That was an uppercut that came from somewhere low.
And Simon Heffer is a nasty piece of work. The resentment and the spite just oozes out of every part of his being.
