It's amazing how many seem to think getting the last few percent of goal-kicking at the expense of try scoring/creating is a good trade-off.

Gatland, Cotter, Schmidt, Deans - all have done sterling work, although Schmidt seems to have "gone native" lately.

Schmidt and Deans getting at least one over the All Blacks just helps their cover.

There's certainly none born in Scotland. (The last Scottish-born All Black was Laurie Haig, whose last test was in 1954, in Edinburgh fittingly.)

I'm not aware of any All Blacks with recent Scots heritage but it wouldn't surprise me if there are some Scottish grannies in there somewhere. Unsurprisingly, the NZRU limit themselves to publishing the birthplace of players only, and not their ancestors. It's far more likely that the SRU have a dossier of that info!

There are plenty of All Blacks that have Scottish ancestry, obvious ones are the likes of Richie McCaw or Angus MacDonald, And then we have some unexpected ones like Sonny Bill Williams, on his mum's side.

I thought the McCaws were Norn Irish?

You pick players who can do the job you want them to do, who play the style of game you want to play.

If only more selectors took that approach.

I've never seen him do anything else other than that. I guess we need to be prepared for what we normally get and prepare for something different as well. All come out when he selects his test team

To answer that question properly you'd need to know how many of the English/Welsh/Irish players had Scottish grannies as well surely?
