However, the spiritual messages are decidedly mixed, even troubling. While the apes espouse winning Christian values of peace, love, and family, there's a subtle anti-Christian message in the evil Colonel, who wears a cross around his neck, displays one in his quarters, and gleefully announces that he is waging a "holy war."

In fairness I can sympathize with them insofar as they have become easy targets for derision. Of course if the monkeys were wearing taqiyas, there'd be retaliation in the form of a few pounds of semtex strapped to a jihadist.OptimisticJock wrote:Ah FFS. Can we not just enjoy films?
You're right though, we should be able to enjoy movies without worrying about causing a rash of melties across social medias and t'interwebs.
I wonder how the snowflakes would have fared at Dunkirk.

As far as I have read and heard it will be focused on the men waiting on the beach, RAF and the public support. The French are not very happy with it, but I wasn't expecting them to be.

Someone help me out here, there was a ship sunk at Dunkirk that was something like the biggest loss of life at sea ever but the sinking of it was kept all hushed up, and I think still is, at Govt level as it wouldve impacted too much on the public? Cant remember the name of the ship?
Nothing to do with the film mind,, which does look like a good un

It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

The reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. Not so much for the ape movie.
Maybe some of you spend too much time getting angry on social media?

Saw this tonight. Highly recommend. Refreshingly free from love stories twining through the main plot, and other extraneous carry on.

Fucking spectacular film. Think there could have been more ships and a more crowded beach but it didn't detract from it. Bit emotional when the wee boats rocked up and at the end.

Re: Dunkirk
Dunno if their heroics are mentioned in the movie, but the shweaties must be amongst the bravest fighting men on the planet:

Just watched it. Don't really know what to think about it really. I feel I should think it good but not sure if I did. The jumping round of the timelines fecked me off though.

Re: Dunkirk
Excellent movie, really well made, performed and directed. Just the right length and free of silly heroics and unnecessary gore. The panic and desperation of those trying to get off the beach was brilliantly captured.
