Wales AI Squad

Post by MrK »

Given the injuries Id like to see something like...

Props -- Evans, W Jones, N Smith/G Jenkins; Lee, Lewis, Assirati
Hookers -- Owens, Dacey, Elias
Locks -- AWJ, Charteris, S Davies, Ball, C Hill
Back Row -- Shingler, Navidi, Tipuric, Youngs. Griffiths, Faletau, King/Boyd

SH -- Webb, Davies, T Williams
OH -- Biggar, Patchell, S Davies,
Centre -- S Williams, J Davies, J Roberts, John?
B3 -- G North, S Evans, H Amos, L Williams, L Halfpenny

Whod you swap in and out?

I think that it would be a straight choice between King and Shingler as both offer the lineout option, I'd favour Shingler on current form.

I'd like to see Tyler Morgan in the mix at centre, I seem to recall a very promising centre in the U20s last year, Kieran Williams iirc, he could do with some exposure to the squad. I'd have Allen over John as it stands (injury depending).

I'd also like to see Keelan Giles given an opportunity against Georgia but that may be pie in the sky.

I think we'll see Anscombe instead of Patchell.

Lloyd Williams or Aled Davies will probably make up the third spot at 9.

Lydiate could make a return as he would be handy against SA and offers a little more solidity than the other backrowers mentioned (Faletau excepted).

Agree re Shingler but King seems to be in the "Good trainer" box .

Its a shame Watkins hasnt had any game time at the Os, we are looking short at Centre - Im not averse to Tyler Morgan - Id like Parkes to be involved come January

Surely Patchell cant be ignored given his form? Maybe Anscombe in for Davies - his form was better at the back end of last season

If its LLoyd v Aled id hope it has to be Aled Davies. Ive always been underwhelmed by L Williams

Decent call on Lydiate but has he had any game time? Is he in SA with the Os?

I think it was Tomas Williams, don't think Anscombe will be ready for the AI but maybe. If not Patchell I hope will get a look see....but maybe he is in the "bad trainer" pile along with Giles and others.

There us one thing that may work for some players this is the time for the coaches to get a real look at some players on the edges.

Aye, he's on the bench.

Id rather Tyler Morgan over Jamie Roberts on current form.

In a big physical game, Id prefer Lydiate. otherwise Shingler (assuming Lydiate begins to regain some form).

Isn't Anscombe injured, or is he due back soon?

Actually, Henson is in very good form. Roberts isn't playing well (apparently) and Scott Williams is the obvious choice, but I wonder what a 10-12 pairing of Patchell and Henson would offer?

If the RWC was this coming autumn, I'd be pushing Henson big time for a place, but with another year there is the risk that he won't make it and perhaps the emphasis should be on youth.

Well it looks like they are going to have to pick Patchell, Anscombe won't be fit in time, unless they pick Owen Williams instead, tho Williams could quite easily be picked as a centre as we haven't got any depth there.

Long shots

Blues - Domakowski , Rhun Williams must be in with a shout?

Dragons - Dee seems to be on top form but will de difficult to get in, in a position with real depth, Leon Brown? Getting gametime - Henson - could he? Dixon ...fits the "Roberts" mold.

Os - No long shots i guess

Scarlets - Boyd, Mcleod, J Evans ?

Cracknell for the Os. Playing for the Os, it gets a longer shot with every passing week.

Way to jinx it, Fella.
In fairness....Patch' has been quite conservative so far, at least from the games I've seen. Scarlets are using a shedload of different first receivers and he's dropping to play last man. All of which might, finally, endear him to Gats.

Given the lack of depth at centre I wonder if there's been any more dialogue with Max Clark at Bath. I know he turned down a summer tour spot but has since said never say never.
He's not made the England squad & I'm wondering if Gatland has been trying to get him on board.

He looks a good player and I would like to see him in the sqaud ... however I may be wrong but ..has he said he wants to play for Wales as I saw he was touting for England and not sure that they will go hunt him..although I agree there is limited players to fill the 12 role of a creative player unless a few maybes really step up such as Watkin.

He said the summer tour call up came as a surprise & he felt he was too young to pin his colours to the mast. His mum is trying to get him to pick Wales apparently.
Said he's keeping his options open.
Can't knock him for that, even though he's born in Wales with a Welsh mam he's come through the English system. Played for them from U16's - U20's.
There's also London Irish centre Johnny Williams who's highly rated & has played for England U20's but Wales U16's before that after coming through the WRU exiles program.

Tyler Morgan did his selection chances no harm last night, although Foxy is by far the obvious choice in the OC shirt.

Best game he's played in ages, great to see.
Hugely talented, needs some luck injury wise. Both he & Dixon look infinitely better outside Henson - who's distribution is still top notch.

Dixon is a bit one dimensional, a younger Jamie Roberts. Henson can bring the best out of a player like that and he will be a solid regional player, but I can’t see much more than that.

Meanwhile, Hadleigh Parkes again showed plenty of class. Stef Evans retains his form and out two best scrum halves had a spikey encounter.

Parkes is a great player, not flashy but brings others into the game well and seems to take the right option more often than not.
