Scottish commentator: Other than the two tries, it's pretty even

Good welsh defenc and two well taken tries.

Bit concerned at how much ball we are wilfully kicking to Scotland. All the ore match discussion over the scrum last owed to be a waste of oxygen, whilst the welsh team looked pretty cohesive.

Patch is going pretty well at fly half.

Wales just need to get the ball off the park when kicking, job done :)

A shame Stef couldn't hold the pass from AWJ, that would have been a beautiful try. Anyway happy with that, the momentum has started - 05, 08, 12...18?

You can say our first interception try was lucky after a great start by Scotland but it was sufficient to put them on the back foot.

I thought from that point on we put together a great team performance with virtually all the replacements doing well to keep the momentum going for the full 80.

Next week will be a different kettle of fish and I worry if Anscombe has to come on at 60 mins for a cramping Patchell. Today our forwards stepped up and covered his deficiencies.

It’ll be interesting to see how England go on tomorrow.

Yup. Patch did well on the whole, although I though his first option was to run himself a couple of times when he might have looked at the wider game.

Anscombe made a bad mistake with that dropped ball, but otherwise looked alright.

We will need to improve for next week, but considering that we had been written off for this game, I’ll be having a few beers later on the back of this.

Good to see Halfpenny looking something like his old self. Would have been my MOTM. That dive mind.....

Great performances from most of the team. Scotland must be reeling, totally unexpected.

Gatland owes Pivac big time.

I guess the question we need to ask after a few hours reflection is: are Scotland a truly bad team; were they just having a bad off-day or were they a good side having a thrashing by a significantly superior group?

Next week will be a better measure of how we’re developing but today’s game certainly gives a springboard to go to Twickenham with a degree of confidence. It’ll also be indicative how England are developing with a raft of injuries like Wales.

Valid points all.

I think use were far more clinical today. 2 visits to their 22 in the first half and 2 scores. Our attackin*shape actually had some shape and we looked far more dangerous with ball in hand than I can remember for some time.

Our defence was good for 78 minutes and we had a decent possession of ball. Scotland weren’t awful, but neither were they the side they were in the AIs. Are they one of those teams who travel poorly?i think this was a genuinely good performance by us, which makes a channel for us to start so well.

However, many of the players in the team today were those genuinely in form. Liam for Halfpenny is a discussion that will be had but Armand and Evans have both been in great form for their respective clubs. Parkes is probably our best IC at the moment, Scott Williams is filling a void left by Foxy but is also in decent form. I’d still prefer Webb over Davies but Davies in playing very well, whilst so too is Patchell who offers something different to Biggar.

The front 5 is the normal pick whilst any team would miss Faletau and Warburton, their replacements have been in great form as well. It’s a step down from the first XV, it not too big a one.

Personally, I’d be wary of starting North next week, maybe bench him. I think Twickenham will be a far harder environment for 2 novice wingers, so maybe an argument for LiamWilliams, but only if completely fit. It would be very tempting though to keep the team as it is and let that Scarlets fluidity loose again, assuming we can get some possession.

It's the second worst performance I have seen in living memory. And I've sat through some serious sh!t.

Congrats all. Enjoy it and best of luck for the rest of the tournament!

It was a good start for Wales but it is only a start...they will need to back it up with a good solid performance next week ( win or lose ) to ensure that we are on the right track.
There was an measurable amount of positive things to be taken from the game but it was made to appear a better performance by a Scotland team that did not reach the standard they did in the AI.

After England’s scintillating display against a very good and competent Italian side I’m wondering if it’s worth travelling up the M4 next weekend.

You could see the delight on SCW’s face as he salivated over the English performance.

We’re in for a week of bigging up England so beware the wummers.

England at Twickenham will be a very different proposition, but if we play our game it’s not mission impossible even if England are favourites.
