... hes pretty shit really.
The Rugby Mad Welsh Public of course all buy in to the "hes the best referee in rugby", but Ive seen him ruin more games than make them.
Overrated.
That is all.

He is one of the better refs, although he does get carried away in certain games and forget that he’s there to ref a game, not star as a standup comic. His reffing of the breakdown is often a mystery, but he isn’t alone in that regard.

I caught the last couple of minutes of the Munster match and my impression was that he really, really didn't want to give Toulon a kickable penalty. And so Munster hung on to a one point win.

I seem to recall him refusing to check some potential infringement in a French try vs England that thwe TMO was concerned about a couple of seasons ago.

Good ref, but more and more playing to the gallery. No need.

He's always had a blind spot where Munster are concerned

He's the best since Norling and Spreaders.....and his record bears that out. The two finest games of rugby the planet has ever seen were both reffed by Nige' and the law amendments in the last 10 years will have been suggested and codified with his direct input.
To clarify,....SA v NZ 2013 and NZ v Ireland 6 months later. That was rugby like the stuff they play in Heaven and all levels have upped their technical play since.
If a ref' makes a mistake and you spot it, that doesn't mean you could be a better ref'. It means you're sitting at home on yer fat arse watching the telly.
Rugby invidulators are some of the best in the world of all sports. They're very technical, time served and incredibly fit.
On a rugby pitch only the 2 scrum-halfs cover more distance than the ref'.

Munster have always tried to push the envelope at the breakdown,...... the reason so many Irish teams 'get away with it' is because 90% of the time they seek to play technical rugby. That's a big plus point if you want to be on the right side of your Ref'.

I see a lot of you Fellas using terms like:
'Play the ref'
'Get in his ear' .....and similar cock-breathed dick-head bollocks.
Grow up.

Doesn’t play the ref just mean pay attention to what he’s doing? Or is there something cynical implied?
Anyway. Owens is good but loves his celebrity status far, far too much.

It's usually an insult by the cheap fans who never played.
We have improved our sport by not doing that shite. We need to continue.
Like Nige' said,.....it ain't Soccer.

The idea that top International Refs are regularly biased is frankly laughable. Some miss things, yes, no one has 360 vision, but they are not biased and to insinuate such is disgraceful. Here's an idea get a whistle and try it for your self, refs are always needed at all levels

The fact that they cannot referee their own national team suggests that bias is at least a possibility.
I wouldn't say that this is a deliberate thing, but decisions are made so quickly, and many breakdown situations are so 50-50 that there is plenty of opportunity for a little unconscious bias to come into some decisions.

I think many refs would be harder on their own nation to avoid the accusation.

Players in the changing room blaming the ref. Did he miss a tackle, fail to find touch, knock on.......No. Refs make fewer mistakes than players, and Nigel is one of the better ones. I feel he sometimes tries too hard to be a 'character', but I can live with that.

This is well worth a listen for a bit of backstory if you haven’t already, and I’m quite a big critic of his matey, comedic approach at times.

I think I was saying that talent isn't always how England select their heroes. But looking at my previous post, Im not sure.
