They've just won the council vote for the funding they needed. Barring the government being ridiculous, the stadium is now going ahead.

Truro (if that's where it is) bit of a booger to get to compared to somewhere nearer A30 for the locals, but there's a footy element as well.Hope they don't undercook it.

Good news. Though, I believe the stadium will have a 6,000 capacity so PRL can still blow raspberries at them. Just need to get Bedford’s stadium sorted.

It's designed that it could be upgraded to 10k with very little notice, with PRL's raspberries in mind.

Its a multi sport stadium which will also host the college. Its pretty ambitious and will be in use 7 days a week. its a real community facility. i think the capacity might start quite low, but can be expanded without enormous disruption.

Will it expand to 10k for free?

Yes.
Well no, but it'll expand relatively cheaply and the owner has already said he'll fund that if Prem rugby beckons.

Excellent. All they need to do now is find 4,500 extra supporters.
I’m just jealous.

I thought the Pirates were based in Penzance - as in "Pirates of Penzance" ?

Currently yes - Westholme is a nice ground though ickle.
Pirates were not limited to Penzance - though they nearly got a world record in pirate costume last year - failed by a few due to some choosing to stay in the pub at the given time for the count.

Thanks for explaining. I have a fond memory of being at a charity match back in the amateur era: Pirates v. All Stars (featuring Tony O'Reilly, the great Irish winger). Must have been c. 1960!!!

Wasn't it Penzance; who then merged with Newlyn to become Penzance and Newlyn; who then merged with Truro to become Cornish Pirates?
IIRC the Pirates was always the nickname for Penzance; but never the official moniker

And really calling oneself a pirate with all that entails seems markedly more disturbing than having a nickname like Chiefs.

Mounts Bay did ok for a bit too, playing at the Penzance ground, when Pirates played elsewhere, including Truro.
Truro are still going in a lower league.John Parrott was a snooker player, but came from Liverpool.

If you look closely at the Liver Birds, they are actually a type of parrot.
