Ulsters new head coach.
Good luck to him but may he always finish behind the Scotland team in his pool.

McFarland... I had to check if there was another coach and a mix up!
This is bad news for us. I assume there will be significant compensation involved?
I wonder if it was a bit naive of Toony to bring him into the Scotland set up given he'd only known him for a year or two prior? I'd expect the coaches to be keen to finish their current project with Scotland unless the offer was life-changing (I don't believe that to be the case).
So who else is there?

Well done him. Seems to be a very promising coach. Let's just hope we dont promote Humphreys again

I’ve lost track of who is who, who went which way and who is meant to be good. Our defence is shite. I know that much.

Got to disagree with this. The chance to be head coach at Ulster is too big a deal to be passed up, especially for an Irishman. Fair play to him and good luck.
I wouldn't want us to promote humphrys and dread Stevie Scott getting the gig. Think we may have to look further afield again but at least there's plenty of time to identify the right person and persuade them. I wonder if dalzeil might be an option as he's clearly being groomed for a role (too early for Grant I assume). Whatever happened to Simon Cross?

Is it really? Genuine question. As coach Scotland must be a fantastic prospect surely? Some fantastic potential and a chance to compete against the best in the world on a regular basis.
Cross has two roles last I heard - Worcester as some kind of specialist forwards coach (breakdown maybe) and forwards coach at Moseley IIRC.
I have to say I do find it odd that Ulster have approached someone who was technically unavailable and has no head coach experience.
I also don't believe McFarland is Irish. He learned his trade there but I'm pretty sure he is English, no? But I take your point, a lot of his life must be back in Ireland/NI.

Is this simply because he's available or has he earned it? I cant say I know much about Worcester or how their forwards perform.

Twitter and other forums are reporting we've nicked Danny Wilson from Wasps. I'm guessing Ulster have paid us to get McFarland early and we've used the money to buy Wilson out of his Wasps contract.

He's an excellent forwards coach.

Excellent move - would be very happy with that indeed.

That seems all done and dusted. Everything I have read seems very positive. Can never guarantee how it will work out but seems a good move and certainly better than some that would have been easier to get in place
