Pivac it is then

Confirmed as the next Wales coach, I can't help feeling disappointed as a Scarlets fan but excited as a Wales fan.

Wonder if Wayne fancies starting the job a bit early?

Hopefully the Scarlets can get someone of simular quality and mindset to replace him

The obvious choice, set up nice and early with modest fanfare and we'll feel like he's always been there for his first game. Pretty impossible to argue with the appointment and so far I haven't heard anyone try. What a pleasant change for Welsh rugby! :-)

Great news :), and very professionally done by the WRU. Very tough for the Scarlets, really hope they can get someone good - at least there's plenty of time.

Completely agree. I wonder if he will take Stephen Jones with him?

He'd be mad not to.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if he takes Jones and/or some others from his current setup. More trouble for the Scarlets though, if he does...

I wonder if the WRU are giving him a totally free hand with his coaching team..?

It would be great if he was allowed to take some part in the AI and 6N preparations so he can get into the swing of things as early as possible. He would then have the opportunity to see Gatland’s coaching team at first hand just to see if they were worth keeping. Only Edwards merits retention in my view and working with him while he’s still under contract would allow a relationship to develop.

This is good. Could be a nice stepping-stone up to a Super Rugby gig for him.

Yeah at the Bloos maybe.

Nah, fuck that. Pivac wrecked North Harbour in his brief stint, and it took years to recover.

No, please. Allow us a rosey-spectacled view of this for as long as we can. 8-)

Well that was 10 years ago so I'd rather judge him on his recent coaching :)

It’s a bit hard for most Kiwis to judge, I’d say. He never coached at Super Rugby level and left while still developing. Good luck to him, I say.

Looks to be a good decision well executed.

If it took years to recover, then it must have happened years ago. More recently, he has been coaching the Scarlets to play great attacking rugby. If he can get Wales playing the same way they will be hard to beat.

He was North Harbour provincial coach from 2007-2008. So it was indeed a long time ago. His last stint in NZ was as Auckland provincial coach from 2011-2014, where he did a very good job.

Yep. Regardless of the talents of the person chosen, the process seems very well thought out.

That statement in the context of the WRU seems inappropriate, but they seem to have done a good job this time.

Don't panic, North Harbour is part of Auckland. Auckland rugby players have proved to be uncoachable for around 15 years now.

So Wales have got themselves a man who is at least no worse a coach than John Kirwan?
