I'm no vegan, but the reactions to this have been glorious to watch.

Are they really saying not one stage of the supply involves someone wearing leather shoes?

I'llalso note as a very happy meat eater who's perfectly happy having meals without meat why meals with vegetables can't just be good meals with vegetables I don't know. The impression such food needs to recreate a meat dish just seems a bit pathetic

A lot of people enjoy meals that do traditionally involve meat though (or that they're used to having meat in). If you can make the same meal without meat or with less meat, then that's generally a good thing for the planet. I've switched to a vegetable chili rather than a beef one because I've found a recipe where you can't tell the difference and I'd imagine the same is probably true with a fast food sausage roll.

Besides, planet saving and fluffy animals be damned, it's upsetting Piers Morgan, which is an end in and of itself.

I've been eating veggie chili for years, though I still enjoy a meat one too. Also worth noting for all I object to the idea of for instance vegetarian sausage I am still working on a veggie burger I like

I'm waiting for that to be in the UK so I can try it. The promises are interesting to say the least.

I tried the impossible burger whilst over in the US, it’s as good as they make out. Fairly certain there are restaurants that serve it over here. Probably only in trendy parts of London and Bristol. That said, there must be somewhere in Bath.

It's not reached the UK yet. I'm on their mailing list and the UK status is still down as "coming soon". Seems to be progressing very slowly, which is a bit of a shame.

I’m drawing only one point of interest from that article. That is, as a nation, are we are so hooked on cheap processed food that a £1 burger is deemed as ‘not cheap’?

How much of a sensitive little crybaby does one have to be to get this upset over something so trivial?

You all discuss me.

Wait till the Halal vegan sausage roll hits the shelves.

Sounds neat. Meanwhile, one of the best places to eat in Auckland is a vegan cafe at a Buddhist temple in Manukau, so it's no biggie.

I'm a bit puzzled as to why anyone would see a retailer seeking to exploit a market opportunity as being even slightly contentious.
Is it the word "vegan" that triggers some people?

As a rule, I don't each sausage rolls as they give me heartburn, but I think it's the pastry that's the cause so a vegan filling rather than something that's been waved near meat isn't going to solve the problem.

The "are we the snowflakes?" thing pretty much sums it up. Certain people seem to feel the mere mention of vegan food is oppressive. Or perhaps stating your opposition to it is a sort of shorthand for how masculine and heterosexual you are?

If you are part of a heavily privleged group and a marginalised group gets something, then there is a tendency by some to see it as them losing. Which, in a way, they are - they're getting 97% of the attention rather than 99%. So anything extra for the marginalised group is "pandering", "special treatment", "catering to snowflakes", because it's a change that's not in their favour and attention that's being taken away from them.

See also, "Why isn't there an International Men's Day?", "I want a Straight Pride Parade", "Where's the White History Month?", "Why are there dark people on Doctor Who?", and other such jollities.

Left handed snowflakes no less. Classic.

The Stuart Storar thing is a piss take though, right? He looks like a transitioning Micheal Caine.

What about that man makes you think he belongs to a privileged group?

The vegans are welcome to Greggs, unless it pushes current Greggs clientele somewhere I might encounter them
