I've seen this mentioned in a few places, but never really talked about; so here goes. And please, bare in mind that I'm a technophobe.

It seems to offer a fairly cheap, legal way of watching whichever match I want to (domestic at least) - rather than trying to maintain internet silence for 2-3 days waiting for Premiership Rugby to put the as-live match up to watch.
It also looks ike I need some seperate software in order to work.

So, firstly I guess - is this right?
Does it tie me to watching on a tablet, or can it be used on a laptop of TV screen?
It talks about working best alongside chromecast - what actually is that? is it necessary? how do I get one?
I get the impression it needs a VPN - what actually is that? is it necessary? how do I get one?

Rugbypass is only available for those in Asia. If you are not in Asia you cannot get it. But...

A VPN is a piece of software that re-routes your traffic to a server in a different country, before doing all the normal internetty things, so you can fake your location, to, say, Asia.

You could then fake your location to a nation Rugbypass is allowed, purchase rugbypass, and watch the games.

Chromecast is a small attachment for your TV that allows you to wirelessly send your signals from other devices. So if you use rugby pass on your phone or computer, you should be able to stream it to your TV instead.

Faking your location to watch rugbypass, I suspect, isn't legal anyway.

As for VPNs, there are many to choose from. I use Private Internet Access, which is fairly cheap, and OK, I also use VPN Unlimited, which was ludicrously cheap, and doesn't seem any worse than the PIA one for the most part. I got my VPN Unlimited from a site called Stack Social. It was something like $25 for lifetime access (and unlike many "lifetime" offers, this one is genuine). It's now about $60 I beleive on StackSocial, with plenty of other offers on other lifetime services.

If you do get one from there, make sure you check what lifetime means, some require you to email them once a year, two years etc to confirm you want to continue, some are 500 months (which let's be honest, will be plenty) etc.

VPNs can also be helpful when abroad, and allow you to still watch Iplayer etc, though streaming services will often try and detect VPN traffic, so it's not always successful. It's also a handy way to add a further level of security if you're doing something a bit naughty (like watching less than legal rugby streams) so your ISP (the company that supplies your internet connection) cannot see what you're looking at.

Thank you - I will take the advice on the VPN; and indeed on Rugby Pass. Is there any particular Asian country that's a better bet to pretend to be from?
It'll also be useful to be able to use iPlayer when in france, for example.
Done; RugbyPass itself seems to cost $25 pcm - seems to be an automatically renewing card payment, so presumably I have to remember to cancel it in just under a month's time.

Just make sure you can pay Rugby Pass with an English card, some providers require a card from the country to pay for it.
