There's two possible explanations for it - one is he's resigning over Europe.Billyfish wrote:Interesting....probably to do with his EU stance or is distanciing himself from Cameron/Osborn before the next leadership race.
Yup, oddly IDS has been one of the calmer voices in the Eu debate. His observation that the Tory party have to work with each other after the Eu vote and shouldn't be biting lumps out of each other now, was a wise one. IMHO this was recognised by the Tory fear generating machine and the papers have gone after him a bit. He's certainly appeared in a series of random? Facebook attacks. Bit of this, bit of positioning himself behind Boris and the anti-austerity/pro-Brexit folks. The end of Osbourne I think.Peat wrote:There's two possible explanations for it - one is he's resigning over Europe.Billyfish wrote:Interesting....probably to do with his EU stance or is distanciing himself from Cameron/Osborn before the next leadership race.
The other, and the one I'd put the most credence in, is that IDS honestly thought he was helping the poor and that Osborne was blocking that, and that he'd had enough and decided now was the time.
Part of the reason I put my faith in that as the explanation is I'm not sure IDS is clever enough to play games like that.
Well, there is explanation 3, which is a mix of the two - that and the knowledge Osborne was going to throw him under a car at the next convenient opportunity.
