Quarter final opponents

Gatland will surely have an eye on the quarter final, but who will your opponents be?
Beat Australia (your record over the years ain't exactly good, but that counts for nothing) and you'll finish 1st and play the second team in Group C or lose to Australia and you'll play the team who finishes first.
Either way, you've a good recent record against England or France so you'll stand a good chance of making the semis and barring any injuries, you may well go all the way!
Today's match wasn't perfect but any rough edges can be filed away.
And ....... now that Howler has gone and Stephen Jones is on board, the odds on your team must have shortened a bit!

Who knows who will win on sunday. Both Wales and Aus have flattered to deceive recently.

Far too early to look at quarter final opponents. Let’s worry about that in a fortnight.

Fiji play Uruguay next. So after they stuff the South American’s we can enjoy several days of media reports on how hard it will be to play them, with reminiscing of 2007. Just to get us all in the right frame of mind.

from Planet Rugby:

Fiji to beat Wales

Wales really don’t like facing Pacific Islanders having been ousted by Samoa and Fiji in past World Cups and, while this side is much better than those teams, they could come unstuck next month. The key areas that Warren Gatland’s men can target is the set-piece, but the scrum has been an issue in the warm-ups and the lineout is not always reliable. With their attack also malfunctioning, the Flying Fijians could well enjoy themselves against Gatland’s outfit with the knowledge that the Welshman are lacking creativity.

The 2019 Grand Slam winners are strongest in defence but Semi Radradra and Josua Tuisova will test any rearguard, while a back-row that contains Peceli Yato and Viliame Mata is as good as any in the competition. When you add in the pilfering threat of Levani Botia, who will line up at centre but has often played for his club side La Rochelle at openside flanker, this, on paper, is a very good Fiji side.

Bit cliche isn't it? Fiji are actually quite decent in the set piece, and 2007 is just so....well, 2007.

Fiji were good at set piece in 20017 too, securing 11/11 lineouts against matfield and botha, just lazy stuff from whoever wrote it

We can lose to Fiji and aus now and still qualify. Tbh I think the only game we will probably lose is on Sunday, and I think we can certainly win that one.

That is a massive result. Fair play Uruguay, I really didn’t see that one coming.

What year was that game? And did SA really play both Matfield and Botha against a technically limited tier 2 side?

I don’t want to count chickens before they’re hatched but it looks relatively certain that Wales will top the group and face either Argentina, France or England in the quarter final. From what we’ve seen so far the odds are on England topping their group and opening a slightly easier route to the semis.

It would mean France or Argentina to play us. Again the odds will be on France having already disposed of the Argentinians.

France have a habit of raising their game in RWCs so it won’t be easy.

Assuming both England as wales win their remaining games then I suspect we are more likely to meet France who we know very well. Then probably South Africa in the semis.

I’m not suggesting they are easy games, but all can be won and it’s probably as good a draw as we will ever have to get to the final.

Its still not an easy route, needing to beat Australia(done), France or England, South Africa and presumably New Zealand!
