If Ford plays well today, then has a good game vs Sarries on ITV next weekend (assuming Borthwick wants him playing the minutes) the press coverage leading up to the team being named for the Ireland game will be very interesting.

We can but hope. Ford has never been more needed by England

George Ford looks sharper this week. Some of the Sale guys aren't quite on his wavelength yet though, a couple of them have been a bit static when taking the ball with a rapidly closing half gap in front of them.
Sale are behind due to their woeful discipline. Rodd's yellow card to take them down to 13 was spectacularly dim.

I don't like reffing decisions like that. "If it had stopped him then it would have been a penalty try but he scored it so I'm going to award the try". Well that's a kick in the teeth to Sale who then have a difficult conversion that's missed and have to play against 15 for the next 10 mins.

In the end those 2 pts made all the difference

Cue Sando on the phone to Pearcey tomorrow.....
Sale didnt help themselves with their poor discipline. The winning penalty was due to some numbskull play from Ford. That aside i thought he grew into the game and made some very nice contributions.
Hodge made a difference for Exeter and i thought the England discards, Nowell and Simmonds, were very good.

Unfortunately, that's in the lawbook. Not possible to give a penalty try unless a try has not been scored.

He could have still sin binned the Chiefs player.

Tbh, had he not scored and the penalty try given, that was one where a yellow would've felt very harsh. Yes, it would've been a high tackle that prevented a try being scored, but it wasn't dangerous or cynical, it was just a seatbelt.

I'm flattered I was missed! I only watched the game part-time on my phone, as I was getting drunk on a coach journey back from playing a rugby game, so I haven't feel qualified to offer any opinions on it yet. The m-b-m is going to be interesting from that perspective.

Wow, that's awfully flattering. Thank you - know that you are the reason I started it tonight rather than tomorrow evening. You can explain why I'm tired to my boss tomorrow.
If you do have a pound or two spare though, give it to Hammy for the upkeep of this place, as that's important to me:

Ford not taking the place kicks
Easing him back in and with Du Preez at 13 not giving him more to do than us needed at this point is a decent option.

Yeah and protects his achilles a bit just removing those few kicks. He's not back to his best yet but there were promising signs. If England release him next weekend he might have enough minutes to stake a claim for the week after.

I've said it before, and no doubt I'll say it again.
If a penalty offence fails to prevent a try being scored, then give the try and conversion, and restart with a penalty from the half-way line (and a card if necessary - no idea on the instance being discusses).

It's not in the lawbook though. You can only give a penalty on restart for something that happens after the try.

Yeah surely it's just like a normal penalty advantage, even if it's a very short one in the act of scoring.

Sorry, I wasn't clear.
I know that's what the lawbook says, I was suggesting a law change.
