Tom Curry asking Ben o’Keefe if the SA hooker calls him a white cunt what he’s supposed to do.

Thank him for his accuracy of expression? He is white and if he's perceived in rugby terms to be sufficiently aggravating to be considered a cunt take it as a compliment. I'd have preferred Curry to just laugh it off and enjoy the irony of how much more outrageous him using 'black cunt' is considered to be. There is simply nothing to be gained by taking offence - no matter how twisted that might seem seeing as it involves a black guy in a SA team. Any sort of escalation/discipline/punishment scenario will just not do the game any good. Grin and bear it!

Hopefully Curry will have a good, long hard think about what that Hooker will have been through in his life, to get to be playing for South Africa in a Rugby Union world cup semi final and think, "you know what, I've overblown this".

Overblown it how? It was a comment on the ref mic during the game. Presumably when he was getting spoken to.

I doubt there will be formal complaints made post match from England/Curry. If it's overblown, it's a media issue.

If it is deemed there is a place for it on the field of play - whatever the background - then so be it. If it is viewed to be against the spirit of the game then sanctions need to be enforced.

No opinion one way or other.

Did SA Hooker mistake Curry for the Iceman? :)

Could be explained by this. Google translate corroborates.

This seems to be the most likely explanation to me.

Why did Curry ever whinge to the ref? As I said when this was first reported any form of investigation/escalation will do the game no good. Now, 'everyone is rallying found poor Curry'. Regardless of the principles involved, he will be on the wrong end of crap for months/years to come. I don't know anything about him as an individual but I can't help suspecting that he must be thick not to have anticipated repercussions no matter how right he may have been.

If the situation was the other way around, would we be questioning the right or wrongs of reporting it? I'm from Caribbean extraction and played in a time and at a level where the situation would be dealt with another way, but think Curry has dealt with it rhe right way.
I'm of the opinion it is a cultural misunderstanding but wonder why Mbonambi refused to shake his hand at the end.

Did he whinge? Did he make a formal complaint? From the little reading I can be arsed to do did he not just ask the ref what he should do if called a *****************, and this was picked up on the ref's mic. I don't think he was expecting O'Keefe to say 'fill out this form' nor, I suspect, 'Give him a thump'.

I just think he should have ignored it. Can you imagine Johnno mentioning such an incident to the ref during the game? I'm not condoning anything, just suggesting it could only lead to hassle for Curry subsequently as well as creating a stink.

Right there with you. What good's it going to do mentioning it to the ref mid-game? The ref clearly hasn't heard it or, if he has, isn't inclined to take any action, so what's Curry expecting him to do aside from offer some platitude about, "Just don't react, I'll ref what I hear"? It's not going to help his team one whit, so why use up the referee's limited resource of, "They're complaining at me again" patience on that?

I’m not sure he expected the ref to do anything. It was a very British way of letting him know that he thought he’d been racial abused. Something I assume most think isn’t ok.

Seconded.

Not Curry’s fault Mbonambi threw in like a drain just before the alleged incident

It's interesting how Curry phrased that. A direct accusation which was false might land him in trouble. "What if" probably won't, though it might wind up the opposition.

I find it very difficult indeed to believe that a black south african in that team called someone a white cunt.

Anyway maybe it's like Spide-gate in the Ulster v L Irish game and all an unfortunate misunderstanding and mishearing.

It seems like a mis understanding. "Kant" apparently means "side", so "white side" in defence. This also means that in the test in london he heard exactly the same thing in the same situation from the same player.

Which would be a weird thing to think was directed at you.....twice......unless of course the kant and cunt are two separate things.

If you are in a set position facing off against an opposite number he could have easily thought it was directed at him in the heat of the moment imo. I'm guessing the reason he reported it was "this guy said it to me last time we played as well".

Yeah, no doubt nothing to it. I do feel it sounds like a weird explanation. Is it normal to refer to the other team's side in games by colour? That's not something I've encountered except from refs.

Kant means side in Swedish although more in the sense of "edge" FWW.
