Africa CDC head Jean Kaseya warned that the disease could spiral out of control if immediate steps were not taken to contain it.
There are currently no cases of the virus in the UK, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) hs said, and its deputy director Dr Meera Chand claims the risk "is currently considered low".

On 29 July, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control said the risk from the mpox virus was "very low" in Europe.
Will this be effectively contained, and if not, given the relatively high mortality rate from this 'clade 1b' strain, can we expect this to be something else to prepare against in some way this autumn.?
I believe vaccines developed for smallpox are effective against mpox.

Another pandemic, awesome!!

I know nothing. However the old ball-and-chain is medical and says it's not something to panic about, so there we are.

Contact spread, IIRC, which means it can be contained a lot easier than something passed by air or water droplets.

Bound to happen given the constant fluid movement of folks internationally; sure there won't be the lackadaisiacal response this time, with lessons learned, though as P. states, the potential to explode ain't there this time due to the contagious manner of transmission :|

Vaccines are available, for those at greatest risk or who have been in close contact with an infected person, but many experts worry there are not enough jabs or funding to get them to the people who need them most.
