With Georgia to go to should go through as second seed if England best Aus and probably face Argentina, who so far have beaten France and South Africa. Fourth spot depends on who wins between Wales and NZ.

I kind of wanted it to be the Boks in the U20s as it had a pleasant symmetry, but it looks like it will be England. Big achievement to get to the final. they mustn't rest on it though.

looks to be a good few who might make the step up.... both props, ryan obviously, deegan, stockdale... munster have high hopes for bill johnston too.

tough choice between deegan and porter for irish player of the tournament.

McPhillips looks useful if not electric. McBurney looks like he's going to fall into the Annett gap: very good at U20 but just too small to make it as a top level pro hooker.

Just had a look at the player stats from the Irish U20's roster. Some of these 19-20 year olds are massive, with several around the 18 st. mark and one prop just a pound short of 21 st. What the hell are they feeding this generation? They can muster a pack that's hardly smaller than that of the full national team. Seems to be a good blend of pace and skill in the team too.

Really pleased for McPhillips. Was gutted when he joined Ulster after leaving Sedbergh. He's a good one. Got a very mature head in terms of game management. He's a really nice kid too, with a cracking work ethic.

In the Eng v SA SF the commentators couldn't stop telling us that the Saffer 23 were heavier than the RWC winning Saffers of 2007

deegan is one of the 5 nominees for player of the tournament... i think i'd have just gone for porter ahead of him if they were looking for just 1 irish name.

deegan, ryan and porter all starting in the leinster academy year 1 next season... meaning they probably won't play any pro rugby for 3 years or so.....

stockdale will fit in probably around 5th in line for the ulster 15 jersey... although i have heard he fancies 13 more.

thankfully bill johnston should be a little higher up the munster pecking order... mainly due to those ahead of him being perma crocks or just plain rubbish.
