That's the impression I get looking at Facebook. All the sexism is coming from women; not men. Also, it's almost entirely my American and British female friends who do it; not my Turkish female friends. Wonder why. TV, perhaps? & when did plain old "sexism" become "misogyny" anyway?

It's a complicated one. For example, I look at some TV ads with some male model and it seems fine for him to be half naked, but the same isn't for women. Equally some ads mock men in a way that women just aren't. I've met a few women who have been very sisterhood orientated and have gone out of their way to advance women, sometimes at the expense of men. That said, there are still some glass ceilings for women and it's not a level playing field.

Thanks for the advice. I've seen the word 'misandrist' being bandied about from time to time as well, but since when did we all start speaking Greek? The problem is that the entertainment media has so over-used and distorted the orthodox terms that they're just not fashionable any more. Of course, I understand and sympathize with feminist issues, and women certainly have a rough time here in Turkey. But don't let that lead you to the bitter, middle-aged American or British divorcee on Facebook ...

I don't think it can be generalised that way; especially when "women" still get the shitty end of the stick compared to "men".
However, misandry is much more socially acceptable than misogyny. Consequently it is far more visible, and what is there is far less likely to be challenged.

Exactly, there are no taboos on misandry, and men seem reluctant to address the issue. The entertainment media knows this and exploits hell out of it. I'm not advocating for an 'All Lives Matter' kind of backlash scenario, that's just puerile, but the idea of just sucking it up - 'like a man' - seems very ironic to me.

I didn't know it was an issue. There are enough things to be genuinely upset about in the world, this isn't one of them, to me anyway.

I think it would depend on your own personal experiences in life. Stefan Molyneux gets pretty worked up about this issue because his mother abused him and his first wife cleaned him out in the divorce settlement. I'm not particularly upset about it, but it used to be one of the nice things about Turkey that I got away from all that shite, only now it's coming back through Facebook, which I've become reliant upon to keep up with all my friends around the world. Maybe it's the fact that I did get away from it for a while that makes me notice it more now...

What a load of puffed up, self-righteous, condescending nonsense, Cashead. I'm referring quite simply to prevalent attitudes, not centuries of history (which we played no part in), and if you didn't bother watching more than 5 minutes of that video, you're really in no position to pass judgement. &, yes, television and the entertainment industries in general are targeting women more and more, for the obvious reason that in the 21st century they have become financially independent and therefore equally regarded as consumers. That's common knowledge. & while it may not be an accurage reflection of the wider community, when I open up Facebook each day I see an awful lot of bitching going on about men but no criticism whatsoever of women - hence the title of the thread. Agree or disagree, fine. But do leave our the condescending wording, because I'm much too old, well-travelled and well-read for that sort of thing. Cheers.
