That backline looks very good. Well, apart from two aspects. But it is arguably our easiest game in a very tough group. Good to see Timmins at 6, rather than 7, where he felt out of place. Hell of a bench to bring on!

Not sure England would have been quaking in their boots anyway, but Scotland's best player, Freddy Douglas, is out woth a head injury suffered in training this week.

That’s a real shame. He’s quality that lad!

Yeah, and with the condensed nature of the tournament, he could easily miss all the group games!

About as bad a start as is humanly possible. Might have to bring Sela on after 10 minutes to sort the scrum.
Clear penalty try on Offiah just now.

Every year I forget how bad the refereeing is for this tournament.

Lafferty looks a unit for Scotland. Played for them last year and still eligible at U20 level for 2026.
Long term replacement for Zander Fagerson presumably.

Our 16 looks as wide as he is tall.

A mixed bag to say the least. Some good bits and performances with some sloppy work in attack and a floundering scrum in the first half.

Didn't see the incident but will Timmins be banned for the rest of the tournament? Back row already weakened with the absence of Pollock.

It was a straight red so i'm sure he'll cop a ban. 2 games maybe?

I'd guess he will be out. He was pulled across in a bit of a neck roll and pushed himself up with his elbow into his opponent's face. I did not understand the ref's comment that it was made worse by the resulting cut. That implies that if the blow had not resulted in a cut the punishment would have been less - a 20 minute red or whatever. It was either a violent assault deserving red or it wasn't. The blood could be argued as incidental. I thought there was mitigation in the way he was rolled and then held on to. Had it been yellow with review I think it would have been upgraded to red anyway.

That first Scotland try had my current bugbear. How long do you have to be on the ground before you're out of the game and can't pass from the floor??
Ofaiah (sp) looks fucking lethal

Bit of a mixed bag all round. Pretty poor start, but Scotland were always going to come out hard. Raymont and Gulley struggled at scrum time. Noticeable difference when Tuipolotu came on.
Lots of unforced errors. The second half was very frustrating. Some good performances in there. Both centres and wings looked sharp. Bracken is just absolute quality. James the pick of the forwards.
Nice cameo from Redshaw. Sodeke also looked very good when he came on.
Really silly from Timmins! That could be his tournament done.

Bracken - yep, really like what I'm seeing. Pity he was over-enthusiastic and messed up his positioning for the Scottish try. Runs over there, jumps over the tackle, keeps going, and fails to take the position where the try is scored off the ruck.
Timmins was beyond silly - really ought to be his tourney over - I just can't see any need for it. The only mitigations I'll allow him are that we all screw up at that age which is why I won't be harsh on him over on the Bath board where he's more likely to see it), and that it was on the corner of the screen for one angle - we could easily be missing something to instigate it - I just don't know what.

Are we expecting to go bigger Vs SA? Move Kpoku to 6 and start Sodeke alongside Burrow. Rotate in the front line props and maybe Streeter onto the bench.

ITA v NZ was a fucking shambles. NZ burned a few chances, couldn’t catch or pass, and scrummaged like wet cardboard, but won by defending well in their 5m and kicking well. Italy were dynamite in the breakdown but kicked like shit. Officiating was pretty average but that cuts both ways.
I can’t see NZ progressing if that’s their standard.

Got Wales and Argentina still to play. They had a real ding dong of a match which Argentina won late one.
