Two Plus Two equals Three is the latest proposal

Given the preparedness of the two western regions to go to litigation over the whole mess, the WRU have backed away slightly, and adopted a two plus two proposal. This would mean:

1) The Dragons owners buy out Cardiff, play in Cardiff and call themselves Cardiff.
2) The Dragons will become a development region.
3) The Ospreys will become a centre for the whole of Wales for developing women's rugby
4) The Ospreys will get enhanced funding on that basis and will continue as a fully funded region
5) The Scarlets will get a lower tier of funding and will sink or swim on their own merits

So, the regions will be
  • Cardiff plus Dragons called Cardiff
  • The Ospreys plus women called the Ospreys
  • The Scarlets plus The House of Luxury LLC called the Luxury-we-can't-afford Scarlets (or not)
Seems a bit of a dog's dinner, but it's better than the inane EAST+WEST, I'm not sure where the Dragons will play, possibly in the URC but with lower tier players who will transfer to Cardiff once they get good.

Pretty sensible in the circumstances (but I'm not a Scarlets fan). Not seen this on WOL though . . .

If we can get this to fly we should see if our luck holds and try to get two of them into the Premiership.

Ok, so 4 regions but with different funding model, two properly funded to achieve something. It’s a bit galling that now Dragons finally have some investment on board they get knee capped. But opportunity to r3view funding models when situation improves.
