NATO is waging was across the Middle East, refugees are flooding into Europe, and France already has a Muslim population of 5 million, many of whom endure great hardship and descrimination. This is a recipe for disaster. But the media will soon tell us that ISIS has claimed it, thereby drawing attention away from the real issues involved, and creating the image of some Islamic terrorist super power which is capable of striking anywhere at any moment - thus serving as the pretext for continued NATO involvement in the Middle East . . .

Almost certain to be blamed on ISIS, however, whether they claim it or not. The perpetrator has been described as French-Tunisian, so that's more likely to have been motivated by post-colonial issues, but no doubt we'll be hearing about how he did his training in Syria and was sent back expressly to kill Westerners because they despise our freedom...

Post colonial issues can be applied to so much... It might not be Isis directly, but everyone knows whose strategy he was following.

The Paris attack involved multiple, well-armed attackers with a sophisticated strategy. This attack seems to have involved a single individual without much in the way of arms (most turned out to be fake I understand), and a very simple, albeit alarmingly effective, plan.
From the reports so far, it doesn't seem likely that the individual responsible has formal links to ISIS.

Who?
Quite possibly Abu-Muhammad al-Adnani's. We might never know.

How is it that the Euros passed without incident, I wonder? Sure, there was high security at matches, but the fans were everywhere. I still expect the media to blame this on ISIS one way or another, and probably there will be calls for more troops to be sent to the Middle East. But the perpetrators of France's terrorist attacks are not from the Middle East. They are invariably French Maghrebs, which does suggest this has more to do with post-colonial issues such as discrimination and oppression

It's looking increasingly unlikely that French authorities will accuse ISIS of direct involvement with this. They are now saying that the individual was known to the Police as a petty criminal, but unknown to the intelligence agencies. So, unless the search of his apartment throws up anything to suggest formal links with ISIS, I expect that it will be put down to a lone-wolf attack.

Shocking attack and deepest sympathies to the victims and their families.

It goes to show that attacks don't have to be that well planned or financed to be effective.

He is from Nice and is of Tunisian origin, aged 31, called Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel. Police raided his apartment in the Nice Nord district this morning. He works as a delivery driver and is known for criminal acts, including violence, but any radicalisation has gone unnoticed. His act seems yet to have been premeditated.

"He was known to the police for violence, and using weapons, but had no direct links with terrorism," said an investigating source.

"The attacker was not known to the intelligence services, suggesting he has not previous background in terrorism offences."

My kids arrived in Nice yesterday morning, and were attending the fireworks display with their 70 something year old grandparents. They are all ok. I really feel for those who lost someone in this one.

What a fucking imbecile.
I agree. But at this stage I don't believe we have been given a motive, let alone a religious one, so I'm not sure that the mass murder in Nice can even be described as 'terrorism' - even though it's already been widely labelled as such by the ever zealous mass media. I said at the start it probably had more to do with the grievances of the local Maghreb population, and I also believe that's what's been behind the other attacks in France, including Charlie Hebdo and the big one last November.

For now all we know is it's a young man with a history of violence that the police are aware of. I agree, too early to label it terrorism, also too early to suggest it's related to "the grievances of the local Maghreb population" perhaps.

Early days yet, but it's looking like this chap was not connected to Daesh.
