The guy who connected loudspeakers to minarets. The Call to Prayer (which I used to like listening to, though I'm not religious at all) is now being played at about a zillion decables and they've even added one at 4:30am lately just for good measure. That's real nice when you have a mosque next door.

You mean that no one has ever bought you several of those call to prayer alarm clocks and hidden them in your room to go off at hourly intervals throughout the night?

That's pretty much what it's like. I invested in an MP3 player a while ago just to block out the noise when I was reading, but I can't exactly wear it in my sleep. This has becoming about the most annoying aspect of living here as Islam makes its big comeback. Otherwise, can't complain...

We did some research in the office today and, guess what, it turns out the all-new, louder-than-thunder, two-hours-before-dawn Call to Prayer is entirely bogus. The rules state you are permitted five Calls to Prayer a day between dawn and dusk. But Turkey has introduced a sixth Call to Prayer - two hours before dawn. That's clearly a red card.
