Quiet in here.

Not much in the way of constructive discussion lately. The last two threads I was on had both been reduced to silliness - so why bother? I thought to myself.

Get your point. Don't agree with all you post. Respect your right to post your opinions.
I wonder if some of our mods could look on the board similarly. To keep this forum going we need friction and opposing views. We don't need escalating nastiness and I don't think we can afford to ban too many people.
This version of rugby rebels seemed a bit like a new hope just a few months ago, it seems we may be close to seeing it die one more time. Roll on the Autumn internationals.

Don't be so quick to dismiss silly.

Opposing views was never the problem.
In fact, if all posters followed your guidance then the mods could just relax and enjoy our own time on here.

Cas, there appears to be something on you shoulder.

Probably because at some point, you're going to start a proper moan about the UK or the US.
By commemorating the Soweto Massacre, for instance.
A little more open-mindedness seems to be in order...

It's been that way for a long while
Serious exchanges of views are only one factor that message boards work, silliness, humour, compassion, friendship, insight, knowledge, shared interests are other things that give message boards purpose and give it life, there used to be all those in abundance here
Apathy is one of the most destructive factors to a message boards life, people get fed up over a variety of things
Lack of novelty, lack of excitement, absence of humour, intolerance, too much/little moderation, unfairness in how those who break the rules get dealt with etc, there's loads more , but it boils down to the fact that posting here or anywhere is a leisure pursuit, once it stops being an enjoyable way to spend time, then it reduces and reduces until eventually...

We don't need escalating nastiness so we banned one person.

Clearly, I missed quite a lot while I was on holiday.

Was it? I missed all the fun too. I'm presume it was mostly Cashead prodding UG with a stick until he exploded.
