Ryanair
Ryanair have recently introduced a direct service from Edinburgh to Nantes, to where I fly for work one week every month. Previously I had to take two flights via Schipol or CDG, so naturally, this is a lot cheaper and my employer obviously insists on the low cost option.
Having done therefore flown Ryanair this week for the first time, my question to the RR brains trust is:
How the fuck do you put up with this shit without turning into a mass murderer?

It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Mass murder and air travel in the same internet post?!?!? Extraordinary rendition to a CIA black site isn’t far away. Still better than flying with Ryanair.Stones of granite wrote: How the fuck do you put up with this shit without turning into a mass murderer?

I can't believe it's the first time they've been mentioned in the same post. Don't they have a staff forum?Mellsblue wrote:Mass murder and air travel in the same internet post?!?!? Ryanair are a total nightmare. Its just cost that keeps them in the game. Lots of budget holidays or cheap flight for employers. There is little enjoyable about their experience. Jet2 I think offer far better value and aren't that much more expensive in real terms.Stones of granite wrote:Ryanair have recently introduced a direct service from Edinburgh to Nantes, to where I fly for work one week every month. Re: Ryanair
Having flown Ryaniar I can't think of a service they offer I wouldn't be happy to pay double the price to avoid using them, and quite likely I'd be willing to go higher still. If forced to use them for work I'd probably complain about everything I possibly could to ensure they're losing money on the ticket.

I have a mate who is a Jet2 pilot, and I would be happy to fly with them, but unfortunately, Ryanair are the only airline with a direct flight on the route I fly..Sandydragon wrote:Ryanair are a total nightmare. Moving or changing jobs sounds much more convenient than flying RyanairStones of granite wrote:I have a mate who is a Jet2 pilot, and I would be happy to fly with them, but unfortunately, Ryanair are the only airline with a direct flight on the route I fly..Sandydragon wrote:Ryanair are a total nightmare. Move to France? That's crossing the line, mate.Digby wrote:Moving or changing jobs sounds much more convenient than flying RyanairStones of granite wrote:I have a mate who is a Jet2 pilot, and I would be happy to fly with them, but unfortunately, Ryanair are the only airline with a direct flight on the route I fly..Sandydragon wrote: Ryanair are a total nightmare. Actually, it may come to that. The only reason I haven't already moved is that business is on it's arse at the moment. There are signs of the beginnings of a recovery in the oil industry, so perhaps next summer that topic will raise its head again.

I know. I love North Yorkshire but I reckon I’d be off if a job in France was in the offing and I didn’t have young kids to take into consideration. My retirements plans are pretty much based around France.Adder wrote:better food , work/life ratio... Sun...Stones of granite wrote:Move to France? That's crossing the line, mate.Digby wrote:

Re: Ryanair
The food is fine, the wine is better, but the work/life ratio? Not a chance. I am there one week a month, so I see at first hand the hours they put in. Mon - Thur they work 8:30 - 19:00 or later, although every second Friday they have off. It's totally incompatible with any kind of family life.Adder wrote:better food , work/life ratio... Plus, the traffic in Nantes is fucking horrible.
Incidentally: I'm no longer convinced that the food is all that much better. I've had some truly shite meals in hotels in Nantes, and the quality and range of food available in Carrefour isn't vastly different from an equivalent sized Sainsbury's in Scotland. The price is, though. As is eating out. For a typical "nothing special" meal with a pint, that would cost £25 to £30 here, I would be paying €40 - €45 in the Nantes suburbs and more in town.

Do you miss having a 'lay over' in Schipol....?.

On the way out, I didn't have much of a layover, just about time to get through passport control and grab a coffee before boarding, but I won't miss getting up at 3:30am to make the flight.kk67 wrote:Direct is the clincher.Stones of granite wrote: I have a mate who is a Jet2 pilot, and I would be happy to fly with them, but unfortunately, Ryanair are the only airline with a direct flight on the route I fly..

On the way back, 2 hour layover in the KLM lounge with free beer and grub was bearable, but again, not getting home until 11:00pm was a drag.
You're right, direct is the clincher. Plus the fact that it's less than half the price and my employer isn't really giving me an option.

KLM. Nice. All airlines should be run this way.
