Just been reading some theories why evangelicals wanted Trump to recognise Jerusalem as the Israeli capital.

Basically, they see it as a catalyst to bring on end times.

So glad christians are level headed compared to those other blood thirsty religions

In response to US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the Israeli capital, the Palestinian National Authority has announced that it will recognize Texas as a state of Mexico since it was violently annexed by the United States in the 1840s

Did we ever hear back from Trump on his plans to keep open old coal stations by adding a levy to all customer bills? Some people might want to move away from coal, some might at least insist on newer, cleaner (such as is possible) stations, and some might come up with a plan that accidentally supports a major campaign contributor and claim old and dirty coal stations are important and anyone who doesn't like old and dirty coal stations hates America.

Without the subsidy it's likely left to market forces the old dirty power stations would be forced to close, who knows if the'd be adequately decommissioned, but luckily for the planet Trump has cited terrorism as a reason to overcharge consumers to keep open the less efficient more polluting power stations run by Bob Murray who in entirely unconnected fashion was a big contributor to Trump's election campaign.

It is astounding the ease with which this administration is played. That scientific luminary Rick Perry is there to provide some balance to this asset grab by an industry that cannot believe it's luck.

I don't know if they are getting played. It's certainly feasible that Trump views the public coffers as something his mates should get access too, which is to say if he creates circumstances to aid those he likes that actually is of itself a good and noble thing, and maybe even given his leanings on eugenics a deserved thing

He creates hot air. Let's not loose sight of the fact that it is his time as a reality TV personality and not his business acumen that landed him the gig. He plays at being a businessman but is actually shit at it. You show him a nice military parade, feed him some maccy-Ds and make him feel special, he will agree to anything. The Chinese have done it, the Saudis have done it, the French did it, the Israelis did it, and the energy and financial sectors are lubing him up right now. He is pathetically weak on the ground and that is why he is where he is.

Lo and behold, the conflict has pretty much stopped and Israelis and Palestinians have settled their differences, downed their weapons and come together as human beings.

I knew the guy had potential, but with this he's really stepping up to the plate as a peace-destroying, international law-ignoring lunatic.

The US envoy to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, has accused the UN of damaging the prospects for peace between Israel and the Palestinians.

The organisation "has outrageously been one of the world's foremost centres of hostility towards Israel", she said.

Mrs Haley was addressing an emergency meeting of the Security Council called after President Donald Trump's decision to move the US embassy to Jerusalem.

Thatcher tried the same trick with the financial sector.
Either it allows the crooks even more control, or it makes the market structure even more pernicious.
Probably both.

Should we talk about Alabama here, or in the general US thread?

Well, with Trump's endorsement of Moore, this might be fun...

http://www.latimes.com/politics/la-na-p ... story.html
In response to a question from one of the only African Americans in the audience — who asked when Moore thought America was last “great” -- Moore acknowledged the nation’s history of racial divisions, but said: “I think it was great at the time when families were united — even though we had slavery — they cared for one another…. Our families were strong, our country had a direction.”

At the same event, Moore referred to Native Americans and Asian Americans as “reds and yellows,” and earlier this year he suggested the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks were divine punishment.
Oh, that's the guys facing allegations of sexual assaults of minors (and several adults)

So... Paedophile, rapist, wants to return to the days of slavery for blacks and women... But... He's about to be elected because at least he's not a Democrat

Wise move for the US to keep their cards close to their chest.

Wouldn't want anyone to think they favoured one side more than the other.

She's far too busy sticking up for women's rights in the workplace and trying to convince the world that we could all have what she has with a little determination.

1. Backing a racist homophobe currently dealing with allegations of sexual harassment of minors for senate (justified by generic kiddy right wing catch phrases [GUNZ, MILITARY, IMMIGRATION, ABORTION etc etc]).
2. Grinning like an autistic orangutan while wall st plants attack medicare, medicaid and social security to accommodate massive corporate tax cuts.
3. Renewed accusations of sexual harassment against himself is meet with denial and marvelously pithy responses to calls from other politicians to investigate them:
