Who are the best finger style guitarists to emulate? Aside from Tommy and Chet that is.

Merle Travis and John Fahey, (but Atkins is still the master!)
And have to disagree with you about Andy Mckee (saw him and Trevor Gordon Hall recently and they were brilliant! and nice guys to talk technique with afterwards) and many of other Candy Rat Records players. Different strokes though as they say!

What are your feelings about including 'classical' guitarists (such as Segovia, John Williams etc) in this? I once found an excellent website with lots of youtube clips, where the guitarists were listed alphabetically. Will see if I can find it.

As we're talking guitars (sort of!) I would like to boast that a relative has left me a Ferrer guitar made in Grenada 1963 and it is beautiful to play!

Nice, I bought a cheapish Taylor (a 514ce) last week. It has a great sound and feels really good. All my other acoustics are wired for sound and I wanted one that is just wood, nickel and brass. I'm not into classical picking, and really wanted to get into the country style with a thumb pick. It's a huge shift from plectrum style, but I'm starting to get a feel for it.

I've been watching a fair bit of Mark KNopfler youtube stuff, him talking about his playing style and almost tutorials.The more I've watched the more I'm impressed with him! But mylatest buy is a Takamine 12 string and I'm trying to get the hang of that. Retirement has some advantages!

I've never been able to get on with 12 strings, but having a JTV and a GR20 means I don't have to, the emulations on both are superb. I had a go of a Vox 12 string electric in the studio a little while back and it was like playing a cheese grater.

Played a Vox Starstream last weekend and wasn't overly impressed (love my AC4 and AC30 though!).Never tried a GR20, played a Variax once but didn't like that!

I love my Variax. I've had it setup properly though. They're crap straight out of the factory. I've only had the GR20 a week or so - when I bought it, I didn't realise you had to have a GK3 to use it, so I shelled out the extra ton to get one. It's actually quite amazing. I couldn't see myself playing it live, but it's a great toy for the studio - especially the orchestral and piano settings.
