Re: Another Massacre in Yemen
Meanwhile, as Saudi and its allies continue bombing civilian targets in Yemen . . .
The world faces the largest humanitarian crisis since the United Nations was founded in 1945 with more than 20 million people in four countries at risk of starvation and famine, the UN humanitarian chief has said.
Stephen O'Brien told the UN Security Council on Friday that "without collective and coordinated global efforts, people will simply starve to death" and "many more will suffer and die from disease".
He urged an immediate injection of funds for Yemen, South Sudan, Somalia and northeast Nigeria plus safe and unimpeded access for humanitarian aid "to avert a catastrophe".
"To be precise," O'Brien said, "we need $4.4bn by July".

Well, blaming all of Islam for the crimes of the Saudis & a few others makes about as much sense as blaming all of Christianity for the crimes of America and their allies.loudnconfident wrote:Sunni vs Shi'ite again. Re: Another Massacre in Yemen
At least 42 Somali refugees were killed off the coast of Yemen late on Thursday when a helicopter reportedly attacked the boat they were travelling in.
Coastguard Mohamed al-Alay said the refugees, carrying official UN refugee agency (UNHCR) documents, were travelling from Yemen to Sudan when they were attacked by an Apache helicopter near the Bab el-Mandeb strait.
A senior official with the UN’s migration agency confirmed later that 42 bodies had been recovered after the military attack on a boat carrying refugees off the Yemeni coast.
Who uses Apache helicopters
Saudi Arabia, which is leading a coalition in the war in Yemen, has US-built Apache A-64 Longbow attack helicopters.

War indeed!

Another theater for US war crimes. Now famine looms . . .
The Obama administration was no friend to Yemen. In fact the US has silently supported the Saudi’s war since its beginning. But just prior to leaving office, Barrack Obama did manage to slow-down weapons exports to Saudi Arabia.
Donald Trump announced last week that he overturned Obama’s decision and would immediately send more weapons to the Saudis; who seem to bomb civilian areas indiscriminately despite cooperating with the US for intelligence. This is on top of a US-led bombing campaign which supposedly targets al-Qaeda locations; but even that seemingly altruistic intention is questionable.

Re: Another Massacre in Yemen
Hundreds of thousands of Yemenis took to the streets of the country's capital Sanaa on Sunday to protest against the Saudi-led coalition's ongoing military intervention.
The mass demonstration marks the second anniversary of the start of the Saudi coalition's campaign, which began in March 2015.
Riyadh intervened in support of the government of President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi, who had been ousted from Yemen's capital by Houthi rebels.
The military campaign, which has included numerous airstrikes, has drawn widespread criticism, as well as accusations of war crimes.

The United Nations aid chief warned on Thursday that Yemen was sliding deeper into humanitarian crisis and could face famine this year.
The poor Arab country has been engulfed in war since a Saudi-led coalition launched a bombing campaign in March 2015 to push back the Houthi rebels who had seized the capital Sanaa and other cities.
"The conflict in Yemen is now the primary driver of the largest food security emergency in the world," Stephen O'Brien, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, told the Security Council.
"If there is no immediate action, famine is now a possible scenario for 2017."

That is indeed horrendous. Part of US efforts in securing an arms contract deal with the Saudi's in 2017. Fucking horrible priorities.
