Pro 14 / Premier Sports

Post by Lord Llandaff »

OK, so now that the dust has settled, I've been looking into my options for next season. Despite my original reservations, and I know the negative arguments, there are some positives from this new deal.
  • 1 - No more utterly awful BBC2 Wales Standard Def picture for the ScrumV Live games
2 - Guarantee of seeing every Welsh game each week
3 - £10 a month is a damn sight cheaper than if it had all gone to Sky or BT
4 - Premier Sports may be little known but this will be their flagship competition and it sounds like they're giving it the full treatment.
I have a "Freesat from Sky" setup via an old Sky box, and PS have confirmed I can use this to watch the channel along with the online player when needed. So overall, I'm thinking of subscribing, certainly in the early stages.

What are other people planning?

£99 for all of our away games is good value, i'll probably only watch our games on there. I'll bin sky sports and get an nfl pass.

Scrum V would be made up on contractors in the main, so hopefully they don't just move them accross if they will bring their lazy attitudes or there
will be an editoriral policy to actually talk about the games rather than banter and the national team.

If I can see two free matches a week (so that's if S4C gets Welsh language coverage) that'll do for me. If there's only one match I may consider the £10 a month subscription. Maybe.

I would have preferred it to go to Sky or BT, the latter preferably as their coverage is better, tho that's only as I already have those channels, it's getting a bit much when I am spending £90 a month on SKY and £26 a month for BT Sport, thankfully I get Boxnation free with BT Sport but this splitting up of sports accross platforms is taking the piss now. I'll be paying £10 a month :(

As its a rolling contract, I'll give it a go. Getting to games in person isn't a viable option for week in week out so £10 will be well spent. Hopefully the coverage will be alright, although Im not holding out too much hope there.

I'd need to double check but I'm pretty sure that with Premier Sports you can stream via their website.

I cancelled my Sky Sports package a while ago due to cost.
I'll definitely be getting Premier Sports initially to see what it's like. The BBC have been lazy broadcasters for some time so them missing out is a bonus.
Hopefully a fresh approach will pay dividends for PS and they'll make a success of it.

Just had a look at Premier Sports. There’s an app available for streaming from the relevant app stores.

The first weekend has Premier Sports selecting the ever-popular Zebre v Kings fixture as their only free to air match on Free Sports :(. All the good stuff is on the subscription Premier Sports 1 & 2. If they keep picking the crap match, then Free Sports will be essentially useless.
On the positive side, S4C are showing Ulster v Scarlets, so at least one good match is free to air.

I'm currently able to see Premier Sports on Virgin, for limited time - not sure if this is for all customers (for the start of the Pro14) or just for those with new contracts.

I've signed up for Premier Sports on Sky for £99 before the one month free offer came out.
No brainer imho if you love rugby, ridiculously good value.
I cancelled my Sky Sports a few months ago & am better off financially now with only Premier Sports.
They're showing the Aviva "A" games from England too which could be interesting.

Yeah that's encouraging. Potential for investment into a reserve pro14 league

Signed the old man up to Premier using his old Sky box. Premier even sent him a free Freesat viewing card which comes from Sky and costs £25 if you ask Sky for one. The biggest issue was me having to call them back as they had taken all the payment details but hadn't paired the viewing card, and the hold time was about 30 minutes. But once it was done the connection was pretty instant.

We've signed him up for the free month, and his intention is to run until the end of season and then cancel for the summer period and then restart again this time next year. Interestingly Premier 2 is not yet HD on Sky or Virgin atm, which contradicts the "watch every single game in HD" line a little.

Ive signed up for online streaming. Will see how it goes but previous experiences with the likes of Netflix usually are far superior to buggering about with Sky.

The problem that I have is I want the Heineken Cup games as they are the best for quality, that's on BT Sport unfortunately, with one game per round on C4. If it wasn't for the Ryder Cup, boxing and Formula One I would be seriously considering getting shot of Sky.

Have you tried IPTV at all, apparently that is a fraction of the cost via subscription and you can specify channels that you want to watch.

How does IPTV work? Online streaming service on PC? Is it available for chromecast or Firestick?
Questions, questions. [emoji16]

It works on Android so you can stick it on a KODI box or phone via the app store, there is also windows 7 & 10 apps for it: https://free-ip-tv.en.softonic.com

Unfortunately I don't use either chromecast or a firestick so I can't help you there.

Premier put on a good show for their first weekend (a bit better than Amazon's US Open debacle). Handy that the channel hasn't got much else to show, so I think everything was shown on the HD channel at some point.

Shame about most of the results though....

Agreed. Initial Thoughts are that it’s good value for a tenner.

I enjoyed the coverage I must say, quite impressive.
Missed the highlights show yesterday but I'm looking forward to seeing the midweek show on Wednesday.
