So, protests are still ongoing tonight. Last night, several MPs got into the hungarian TV building (where they should have the legal right to be) and tried to get their petition read. They were denied and kicked out by force.
The European media attention on this is poor, to be honest.
Anyone seen it? Government still has control, but could a mini-revolution be underway? All the parties: the so called socialists, the even less socialists, the neo nazis, the as far from being socialist while still calling yourself socialist, and the used to be the only potential opposition before tearing themselves apart parties have all joined forces.
Which means every opposition, except Hungary's version of if the most radical members of the BNP had broken away to form their own party because the BNP just weren't racist enough for them, have joined forces for the first time.

Read a bit about this in the Times earlier. Something about demanding workers work another 8 hours per week and withholding pay?
Sounds like this could turn ugly.

That was the straw that broke the camel's back. The law is that companies can force overtime up to 400 hours a year. BUT, they can withhold some payment for up to 3 years!!!Sandydragon wrote:Read a bit about this in the Times earlier. However, the protest has turned into something else. Mainly wanting a free media and the majority of the protest is now outside the state media building.
There is a petition of 5 items, and those items are:
Getting rid of that law
Stop crazy overtime for the police
A free judiciary
Signing up to the EU (something to do with the judiciary, sorry can't remember and I'm tired as fook to retranslate)
A free media and press.
Which is...quite sensible.

Have things got better or worse since Monday? I can’t see the current government going quietly.

There are still protests, now in every city, plus many foreign cities. A journalist in a small town got sacked for writing about the protests...Sandydragon wrote:Have things got better or worse since Monday? I can’t see the current government going quietly.
But the opposition, while working together now, are still too fractured to do much, while about 60% of the country still believes the protesters are being paid by Soros...
