I live in England so I’m subjected to the English press. And it’s not the same every year, far from it. Confidence is very high this year (rightly so I think). A lot of it borders on arrogance, mainly my English relatives! I do seem to remember (perhaps incorrectly) a similar confidence in 2013.WaspInWales wrote:Seriously?Hooky wrote:Jesus, I’d give my right arm to win tomorrow. The smugness is just too much to bear. It's the same every year...and believe it or not, the Welsh press do the same, but you may choose to ignore that

Re: Wales v England
The consensus in the press I’ve read is that Wales, despite the good run, have been underwhelming. I think that’s pretty accurate. I think England look very good. It’s the dismissive arrogance of the likes of Barnes that gets a bit much. Helpful for the dressing room though. As well as Eddie’s mocking comments about this being the “best Wales team ever.”

Yep, well I live in Wales and believe me there's plenty of arrogance and smugness this side of things. WoL is always a joy to read.Hooky wrote:I live in England so I’m subjected to the English press. The Welsh replacements came on and did their job. And the English bench? Jones hasn’t got the balls to haul Farrell off and why the feck did Youngs stay on the field for so long? Deserved win Wales, a Grand Slam is there to lose!

And I questioned Liam Williams' place in the squad too. Genius.
I'll tell you what, there's NO CHANCE of us doing the slam this year. D'you hear me? NONE!

I must admit, I was firmly in the England to win camp before the game. Fifteen minutes in and I thought "They aren't so good".

Maybe, but even at half-time (see above) I thought they had us sussed. It will take more sober analysis to work out how we turned it around, but at the end we even had a bit of a swagger; Adams leaping nonchalantly for that last restart was ****ing poetic. YOINK! NOPE, SORRY!UKHamlet wrote:I must admit, I was firmly in the England to win camp before the game. Fifteen minutes in and I thought "They aren't so good".

I was convinced by the invincibility of this England team. More fool me I’m happy to say

Sweet. We did our homework, we were ready for the kicks. We had Liam. etc
But the pick and drive success was a surprise. We matched them up front. And they did what I'm always pissed off at Wales for doing - kicking the ball away. They had no plan B.
Guess it shows that you can't read too much into a couple of matches.
12 matches, however....

You only have to look at the tackle count to see who was dominant. (103/223)Sourdust wrote:Maybe, but even at half-time (see above) I thought they had us sussed. Then if you add in possession (65/35)
And territory (68/32)
It wasn't luck - this was a dominant display by Wales, who got it right from a tactical point of view.

Your half back should be shot for those box kicks though. A mighty 3 metre gain and lost possession.

Aside from a loss of concentration for Curry’s try ( and credit to him for a cracking match) England didn’t look like scoring a try despite picking up bonus points in the first two matches.
Now if we can just sort out the line out.

Re: Wales v England
The stats make amazing reading. It really does look like domination, and let's face it; it never felt like that. When Faz scored to make it 13-9 I still felt that would be enough, and was just making my peace with us having given them a decent match.
That said, after we scored I honestly believed that we could see it out. That's a great feeling, and this team have now earned that bit of faith.

Re: Wales v England
At the end of the first half I felt that we were just hanging in there and we would be luck to keep it ton10 points.
Early in the second half it did look like we had dropped the error count (except the line out) and we looked more assured. Then England started to look flustered and surely it looked on.
What was interesting was the stat on when Eales and England had scored their points. It indicated that Wales often finishes stronger and that’s how today ended up. Once Sinckler had gone off I was very confident we were going to win, although the score line was very welcome indeed.

As we say here, "Chwarae Teg".Mikey Brown wrote:Credit to your lot as sincerely as I can possibly give it.

It's all our Christmasses at once right now, but I wouldn't mind a sneaky fiver on England to still win the title. And you only have to look at how cock-a-hoop we all are to see the true respect England are held in. It's grudging as **** allright, but it's true.

Re: Wales v England
Spot on. Youngs may be playing to instructions but looks entirely one dimensional and is turgidly slow to clear the ball. He no longer seems to pose a running threat, which was probably the strongest part of his game. Meantime, Robson, a sparky little SH, cools his heels on the bench, as does Ford, England's best distributor. England has no plan B. Eddie Jones' limited tactical thinking was clearly exposed in this game. But full marks to Wales for an impassioned performance, despite a creaking lineout. Great win.francoisfou wrote:The Welsh replacements came on and did their job. And the English bench? It seems that distribution is considered fancy pants play. It's all about tactical kicking (regardless of whether it's useful) and that stiff upper lip, which we all know Ford is lacking.
