is that indeed, it's like being 10-11 back in school with people dancing around the subject of whether someone fancied them, ffs you're the PM, grow up and grow a pair

also to note the money they're planning to spend is very much a budget for Boris rather than for Britain, feck all of the extra spend is on what they think the country needs (say the Justice department or Social Workers) and is all targeted at what their polling information tells them
In his defence, £1 billion of it is to plug the hole in the social care budget, as set out by the Local Government Association. Quite where this money, and the rest for the deluge of spending promises, is coming from I’ve no idea.
It's an odd one, on the one hand awarding money to areas the public supports is entirely reasonable, on the other it feels utterly wrong to go chasing votes over making the investments you think the country needs. hardly the first time No. 10 & 11 have conspired with a budget for a general election of course

interesting too both Labour and the Conservatives, as you note, now believe in a magic money tree, although it's not like this Tory mob could stand on a platform of economic competence even before Boris went chasing votes given their work on Brexit

Corbyn putting the boot in is quite funny but I've totally given up hope this will come to anything good.

It's not often parliament is this entertaining, though at the same time I'd love a boring parliament back. Raab is surely on strong medication as an aside, he cannot really be this thick

We should all take a moment to recognise the genius of Cameron's fixed term parliament act, stability has truly been ensured

Inhave a great deal of sympathy with Brenda, but...
I've always* believed that when the governing party choses a new leader, a GE should be automatically triggered.

It's pretty handy though since it means Boris can't force an election on the house (which he would obviously make too late to stop Brexit).

And in other news the Tories are right on top of HS2, it's coming in years late, massively over budget and won't run at anything close to the speeds it was supposed to.

I am concerned that Boris's mendaciousness is converting very well to simple election slogans that will penetrate the public consciousness. Listening to him banging on about the "Surrender Bill allowing the EU to dictate terms to us" - it's specious to say the least, but to explain why it's wrong requires people to listen and a simple, repetitive lie can gain a lot of traction very quickly.

I'm not disagreeing with you in the slightest, but no-deal Brexiteers have been using this language since at least May unveiled her Withdrawal Agreement.
Boris has proven himself very good at this kind of thing. Everyone should at least have one thing they are good at.

Both sides have been very good at the sound bite games since the result. People’s Vote perhaps being the most successful of them all and one I have a grudging respect for. #stopthecoup seems like another that has gained traction and now I see third referendum beginning to pop up despite the ‘first’ one being over 40 years ago and being a referendum on the EEC, which is a completely different beast the EU.
Let’s be honest, there’s a torrent of bs coming out of both sides.

To counter BJs election slogans, tabloid-style, perhaps his opponents could point out the level of his failure - shortest tenure (if he doesn't make 120 days), lost his working majority, lost his first three votes. ie as Trump would put it, LOSER.

Would you want to spend more time than it is necessary with Boris Johnson?

Shame on you, sweet Nerevar
