Passes per Ruck
This metric is being used in analysis in various articles that I've read... but they don't supply the numbers... so I calculated it based off espn scrum.com stats hub, for the tier 1 teams.

Good work, although I think it'll be a more relevant stat when the knock outs happen and it's not skewed by the varying quality of the opposition.Zhivago wrote:This metric is being used in analysis in various articles that I've read... but they don't supply the numbers... so I calculated it based off espn scrum.com stats hub, for the tier 1 teams.

A more useful, though perhaps harder to record metric, is a tally of how many passes per phase a side uses, that is how many with zero, one, two, three and so on passes. o

"More useful" interestingly implies that the above stats have some use. Which I confess I cant see for myself.Digby wrote:A more useful, though perhaps harder to record metric, is a tally of how many passes per phase a side uses, that is how many with zero, one, two, three and so on passes. o

It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Yeah, could be a useful stat but would need consistent context. Over a Six Nations it could be interesting (weather dependent)

Re: Passes per Ruck
Keeping ball in hand or kicking is really down to what opposition you’re playing, strong or weak, the weather conditions and even the individual half backs.
Most forwards picking up at the back of the ruck usually pick and go or pass to their colleagues in the forwards to set up the next ruck
Pretty meaningless I would have thought.
