What a cracking win.

Yep. NZ played as well as they were allowed to.p/d wrote:Spot on Spiffy. They could not live with England today.Spiffy wrote:
It is true that NZ were far from their best. But that was because England bullied them off the park right from the get go and did not let then get a foothold in the game. There was nothing NZ could do about it. That was a pretty comprehensive humping not reflected in the score line.
Complete rugby performance

Stats quite interesting. NZ made a ton of yards, but conceded a lot of pens. Our discipline was excellent, as was our work rate in defence- missed a fair few first up tackles, but worked well for each other.
What I really liked was players across the park making momentum changing interventions.

Were you not worried at that point around our 22? I would have much preferred Lawes's tackling then.p/d wrote:Oakboy wrote:I thought Sinckler and Lawes had storming games too. England only conceeded 6 penalties all game, whereas earlier this year they'd conceed that many in ten minutes of rugby. Easier to do when you're always going forwards, whether in defence of attack but the change is startling and can't all be down to adding Curry to the backrow.

Although May was clearly not right he was making important tackles and shepherding well. So many players right at the top of their game. Superb.

Lawes was probably spent. So, line our fiasco aside, was happy enough. Though panicked a tad when a clearly unfit May was replacedOakboy wrote:Were you not worried at that point around our 22? What a performance from the whole pack. Billy the only one not operating at full throttle and he wasn't bad either.

I though he had an excellent game- carried a huge number of times, made a lot of tackles and slowed a lot of ball.Beasties wrote:What a performance from the whole pack. Billy the only one not operating at full throttle and he wasn't bad either.

I actually thought Faz deserved a 8 or 9 out of 10 for his guts but prob more like a 7 overall, and I'm not a fan. What grieves me is that none of them can bring themselves to praise Ford.

Farrell deserves a 10 for his acting alone.

Yeah.. George Ford is like the kid who does evertything perfectly for his parent's attention but they only notice what his brother does.Beasties wrote:I actually thought Faz deserved a 8 or 9 out of 10 for his guts but prob more like a 7 overall, and I'm not a fan. Rewatching the last 20 on plus 1. Bit less tense now.

That’ll do England, that’ll do. Heart rate returning to normal.
Tired of yelling at Ben youngs. Curry, underhill and itoje joint Mom’s for me, just unbelievable tackling.
Jonny May had a standing start against an already running barret, thought he might accelerate a bit better but that’s the main reason he was caught

Re: England vs. New Zealand - Match Thread
It's the smothering defense - over the past calendar year and a bit, this linespeed, cutting off the width with a shooter looking for big hit up the middle combined with fitness, awareness, technique and power in the tackles. It really is something when we effectivley nilled the All Blacks apart from a lineout disaster.
I'm not sure why Faz was allowed to stay on? He dropped the shoulder into a tackle when he was hobbling about.
May has lost a yard with his injury. He is good in the air though.
I'm not sure where this extra power in the tackle and carry has come from - the modern description is dominant? But we definitely won that area today.
Johnno used to say "win the collisions".

Manu's face was a picture whenever the camera caught him. Huge grin, really enjoying himself, real warrior stuff.
