Re: Team for France
Tompkins and Parkes need to work on positioning. Too may dog legs in defense made it too easy for French linebreaks.
Hard fought game, but not to be.

Re: Team for France
I’d suggest that the English scrum is going to be a sterner test. But even some of the scrums we won could have been better. The last scrum in the first half was a peach of a position with one defender less in the back line. Yet whilst we won the ball, it was so badly protected that it was cleared under pressure and the defence was up in Biggar before he could do anything. The french scrum half should have been no where near the ball.Numbers wrote:There is nothing wrong with our set piece, 9/10 Scrums 10/10 Lineouts, France also lost one scrum and had 100% at the lineout. Our defence was not as good as I would like as you say, only 114/132 tackles completed, though France were only one percentile better in this facet. The breakdown was competitive also, we won 114/116 rucks whereas France won 66/68 and we won all our mauls and France all but one, France also conceded 13 penalties, we conceded 7.Sandydragon wrote:What is painfully apparent is that whilst we could have won yesterday, we will need to up our game for next week. A lot. I’m not convinced that we need lots of changes, even any, but we need to work on our defence, set pieces and breakdown or it will be a long afternoon.
So all in all we had the better of the stats on Saturday, which would have been borne out with a win interception aside.

Just read on the Beeb, so take with a pinch of salt, that North failed an HIA during the game against France, did they really administer one? I didn't think you were supposed to bring anyone back on who'd clearly been knocked out?

He didn’t come back on. McNicholl was on for the duration.Digby wrote:Just read on the Beeb, so take with a pinch of salt, that North failed an HIA during the game against France, did they really administer one? I think what Digby is saying is that what is the point of doing a HIA if the player has been knocked out as the HIA is only to assess whether a player is fit to continue.Sandydragon wrote:He didn’t come back on. Yep. You wouldn't want them to chance that with any player, but with North it's an even worse look. Though maybe they always do them just to get some base results (god knows what those would be in such a brief test) even if there's no thought a player might return to the frayNumbers wrote:I think what Digby is saying is that what is the point of doing a HIA if the player has been knocked out as the HIA is only to assess whether a player is fit to continue.Sandydragon wrote:He didn’t come back on. you sure about those lineout stats? I could have sworn the lineout was creaking, and a few times jumpers were missed.Numbers wrote:There is nothing wrong with our set piece, 9/10 Scrums 10/10 Lineouts, France also lost one scrum and had 100% at the lineout. Gotcha, misread that. I suppose the HIA would provide an indication of the players state even if they have been knocked out. Useful first test for further medical treatment if required? Perhaps if the response is really poor then the protocol is to send straight to hospital, whereas North was allowed to stay in stadium and watch.Numbers wrote:I think what Digby is saying is that what is the point of doing a HIA if the player has been knocked out as the HIA is only to assess whether a player is fit to continue.Sandydragon wrote:He didn’t come back on. I was rather hoping they'd be doing rather more than the HIA, even as a first step, but maybe it's what they've got. We're still not taking this seriously as a sport

You would have thought that there was something else, but I suppose if the player is responding normally then its a reasonable sign. I'm not sure that a hospital would go for anything more unless there were other symptoms.Digby wrote:Sandydragon wrote:Gotcha, misread that.
